Joyce Atkins
Hey there!
I’m Joyce Atkins, MS, RDN, LDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with more than 18 years of experience supporting children, adults, and families in clinical, community, and telehealth settings. I specialize in type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, heart health, kidney health, and nutrition support for people taking GLP-1 medications. I also have extensive experience with family nutrition and supporting people managing multiple or complex health conditions.
My approach is warm, practical, and judgment free. I believe every person has a unique nutrition story, and I take time to understand your health, culture, family traditions, food preferences, resources, daily responsibilities, and relationship with food. I combine evidence-based medical nutrition therapy with realistic strategies that can fit into your everyday life.
During our sessions, I’ll help you make sense of confusing nutrition information, recognize your strengths, and find practical ways to support your health without making food feel more complicated than it needs to be. Whether you’re working on blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, heart or kidney health, or navigating nutrition while taking a GLP-1 medication, we’ll create realistic goals that feel manageable and sustainable.
As a Filipina American dietitian, I’m passionate about providing culturally responsive care and creating a space where people feel safe, seen, heard, respected, and included in their nutrition care. I welcome people from diverse cultures, identities, families, and life experiences, including women across life stages, LGBTQ+ people, transgender and nonbinary individuals, service members, veterans, and military families. I also understand that access to nutritious food and healthcare can be shaped by financial, insurance, and other barriers, and I strive to make nutrition recommendations practical and accessible.
My Ideal Client
My ideal client is looking for support navigating a health condition without feeling overwhelmed by nutrition advice. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you and create practical strategies that fit your health needs, preferences, culture, and everyday life. My goal is to help you feel more confident and supported as you make changes that can last.
More About Me
When I’m not working with clients, I love spending time with my young son and large extended family. I enjoy singing, dancing, strength training, creative activities, volunteering, and participating in community events such as local 5Ks and food-bank outreach.
What to Expect in Our Sessions
Our sessions are designed to be supportive, collaborative, and practical. You’ll have space to ask questions, talk through your concerns, and better understand how nutrition connects to your health. I’ll provide evidence-based education, personalized recommendations, and realistic strategies that take your lifestyle and circumstances into account.
My goal is for you to leave each session with greater clarity, confidence, and a few concrete steps you can actually use in your day-to-day life. We’ll focus on progress rather than perfection and take things one sustainable step at a time.
I’m looking forward to working with you and helping you feel more confident in your nutrition and health!
