Uma Shanmugham
Welcome! I primarily work with students who have spent much of their lives caring for others—anticipating needs, maintaining harmony, and meeting expectations. Over time, this role can begin to feel constraining, leading to a desire to prioritize one’s own well-being. Yet, guilt, fear of rejection, and a deep sense of obligation can make it difficult to identify personal needs and desires.
If you’ve been struggling with setting boundaries, people-pleasing, anxiety, identity confusion, burnout, or navigating marginalized identities in dominant spaces—I am hopeful we can collaborate and do some good work together.
I offer therapy that’s supportive, collaborative, and culturally mindful. You bring your story, your questions, and your lived experience—I’ll meet you there. Together, we’ll unpack the expectations you’ve been carrying, explore who you are beneath them, and help you build the confidence to show up for yourself, not just others.
I welcome students of all races, ethnicities, immigrant backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, faiths, abilities, body sizes, and socioeconomic statuses. Let’s work together to help you reclaim your voice.
If you’d like to learn more or explore whether we’re a good fit, I would love to hear from you! You can email me at uma@shanmughampsych.com or call me (617) 990-9450. You can also learn more at www.shanmughampsych.com
I look forward to connecting with you!
