Do you find yourself struggling with intrusive, unwanted or “sticky” thoughts? Maybe your mind is constantly jumping to the worst case scenario, gets caught up in endless “what ifs,” or convinces you that you need to be 100% sure about something before you move on. You may have tried managing your anxiety or thoughts by avoiding certain people, places, or situations, reassuring yourself, mentally reviewing or rehearsing conversations, cleaning, saying a prayer, thinking a good thought to neutralize a bad thought, etc. You don't want to spend so much time engaging in these behaviors, but you feel like you can't stop — like you have to do them to stop something bad from happening, or to feel better. The relief you get from these behaviors is temporary, because the thoughts and feelings always come back, making you feel even more frustrated and hopeless. Over time you’ve noticed your world has started to shrink, and things have become difficult to manage. You struggle with paying attention in class, getting assignments in on time, procrastination, spending time with friends, or making decisions. You feel trapped, alone, and scared. If any of this resonates with you, I'm here to tell you that these experiences are common for those living with OCD and anxiety. The good news is that your life doesn't have to stay this way. With the right treatment, it’s possible to break free of OCD and anxiety and get back to the things that matter most to us. If you are interested in taking the next step please text, call, email, or fill out a form on my website to schedule a free 15 min consultation.

College can be exciting, meaningful, and full of opportunity-but it can also feel overwhelming at times. If you are struggling with anxiety, stress, self-doubt, or uncertainty about your future, you don't have to navigate it alone. I enjoy working with college students and young adults in helping them manage the different life stresses that occur during these times. Therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand yourself and develop practical tools for moving forward. My approach is collaborative and evidenced based. I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and insight-oriented therapy to help you reduce anxiety while building resilience, confidence, and self compassion. Therapy can help you quiet the constant self criticism, improve relationships, , make decisions with greater confidence, and reconnect with what matters most to you. I am licensed in California and Colorado. My physical office is in San Diego for those who prefer in-person. I also offer telemedicine appointments. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength. I would be glad to help you navigate this important chapter of your life with greater clarity, confidence, and peace

I went through a very difficult with my mental health. I felt very low and hopeless at the time. What helped me was going to therapy for the first time. It started me on a journey to self-awareness and self-compassion that has carried throughout my life. Now I would like to help in inspiring similar journeys with my own work as a therapist. I enjoy learning about people and their unique thought processes. I ask questions, verify I understand what you’re saying and do not rest until I can understand where you are at and what your unique perspective on the world is. I am very straightforward when it comes to therapy. I am open about the modalities that I use and make sure you understand my process as we work together. I never force anything and am also willing to work from where your at and come up with solutions that are in line with your goals and personal interests.

I love to watch the process of personal growth and transformation, knowing that my support supplements the hard work clients put into being the best version of themselves that they can be. I learn from my clients while they learn from me, and I am honored to enter into clients’ unique worlds. I hope to impact my clients by providing them the compassion and nonjudgmental presence that they deserve, along with the coping skills and insight that will help them face future challenges with strength and wisdom. My therapeutic inspiration comes from a variety of perspectives and sources: Aaron Beck (cognitive-behavioral therapy), Susan Johnson (Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy), Carl Jung (classic analysis), Daniel Siegel (neurological growth and attachment), Gabor Mate (trauma, addiction, and attachment), and Murray Bowen (family systems theory). This list will continue to grow as I do- like yours, my journey and growth is a work in progress. I enjoy working with clients in emerging adulthood (approximately age 16 to 26). This is an exciting period of life, where identity is solidified and major life decisions are made (education, career, relationships). Another population I have had a lot of success with is adult survivors of childhood abuse and neglect, as I use a trauma-informed approach. I am open and respectful of various religious and spiritual communities, understanding that this may be a source of strength and identity for a client, or a source of tension and pain as a client questions their faith background. Previously, I provided therapy at a non-profit agency in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California, where I had the honor of walking alongside at-risk youth and their families on paths toward functional and adaptive mental and relational health. I also have experience in various school-based settings, where I provided frequent on-campus crisis management as well as on-going counseling services as part of students’ Individualized Education Plans. Gaining a deeper understanding of youth and the struggles they face gave me a richer and more holistic view of the adults they become.

I am very passionate about meeting people where they are at. I truly believe that each individual is doing their best with what they have and what resources are available to them. The compassion that I have for others has led to me to invest in groups that are near and dear to me personally. I am committed to serving those that have felt out of place, are underrepresented, and those that experience prejudice due to various elements of their identity. I believe that all individuals have the ability to seek growth, connect to their values, and are generally trying to do their best with the cards that life has dealt them. My hope as a therapist is that I can provide you with a genuine, authentic, and safe connection that provides a space for you to tap into your ability to heal and live a life that is fulfilling. I will be an ally from a non judgmental stance and respect your own individual sense of agency. I will also collaborate with you on your journey to wholeness no matter what stage of the journey you are on. I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and holistic therapy that takes into consideration one’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual self.

Hi, I'm Alyssa! I help people who are feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed get to the root of the problem and find practical solutions to feel better. While I've worked with a variety of mental health concerns, I'm particularly passionate about working with relationship problems, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. My approach is down-to-earth, warm, and nonjudgemental. We'll explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck while building on the strengths you already have. I want my clients to feel understood, supported, and comfortable enough to be gently challenged when needed. I truly love this work and the meaningful relationships I get to build with clients! Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, but it says a lot about your desire to feel better and become the best version of yourself. Whatever it is you're working towards, I'm glad you're considering taking this step.

I am an ANCC Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I completed my Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Mount Saint Mary’s University and earned my Masters of Science in Nursing at Cal State Long Beach. Prior to my career as a nurse practitioner I worked in emergency nursing and inpatient psychiatric settings. I am a married mother of twins and my interests include learning to play the drums and guitar, going to the gym and astrology. I am inspired to work in mental health as I believe wellness is multifactorial. The state of our mental health is what can influence our ability to function in our day to day. People of all walks of life, including myself, have either experienced a need for mental health care or loved someone who has. I am thrilled to provide care in a time where mental health is becoming less stigmatized. It is extremely rewarding to witness what a profound impact high quality mental health care can provide. I tailor my approach and treatment plan to align with preferences and values through thorough assessment and consideration. I ask questions and I encourage my clients to do the same. College is a major life transition. It is a particularly vulnerable time, with immense changes and pressures from family, peers, school, work, and society in general. Sometimes it may be hard to recognize that you need help because anxiety, depression, grief can show up as low motivation, procrastination, social isolation, physical complaints, poor academics or relationship problems. It can be very overwhelming and lonely to have to figure it all out on your own. I understand how hard it can be to navigate so many demands from school, work, family, friendships and relationships. You do not have to do it alone. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to be yourself and talk about the intense emotions and experiences you are going through. I will work collaboratively with you to identify the roots of your struggles and ways to regain a sense of control and create a healthier more balanced life. I can teach you practical coping tools to address anxiety, depression, stress, uncertainty, procrastination, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, lack of motivation and time management. Our work can also include developing more effective communication skills, resolving identity crisis, setting healthy relationship boundaries and improving your personal relationships. Many students do not realize that part of their struggles could be related to having unresolved grief. I help students identify and move through the pain of grief, makes sense of their loss and rebuild their connections while honoring their loss. A big component of therapy for me is teaching my clients self-compassion and simple ways to self-care. My goal is to get to know you as an individual and your specific unmet needs, so I can best help you. Our therapeutic relationship is just as important as the work of therapy. My approach is empathic, direct and solution focused. I will provide interactive feedback and I will gently nudge you when there is opportunity for growth but I will not ever push you to talk about something you are not ready to talk about. You get to set the pace of therapy. I provide telehealth sessions in CA and NC. If you would like to learn more about how I can help you, please contact me to schedule an appointment. I look forward to working with you.
