Therapists for college students near University of Southern California
Many of the students I work best with seem like they’re keeping up on the outside, but inside feel anxious, overwhelmed, or burned out. You might be juggling academic pressure, relationships, or big life decisions while feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward. Many have tried to push through or talk things out, but still feel caught in the same patterns. If you’re looking to better understand yourself and feel more balanced, supported, and grounded, we may be a good fit.
Therapist Kal Zeryihun values helping individuals identify and shift patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior that keep them stuck so they can live more meaningful lives based on their values. She uses a mind and body-integrated approach to healing, such as increasing awareness of the gut-brain connection and incorporating mindfulness practices along with traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Hey, I'm Shavonne! I'm a Licensed Clinical Therapist and I’m passionate about helping teens and young adults feel more secure in themselves and in their relationships. I help my clients acknowledge and feel confident in their desires and boundaries to gain a secure sense of self and build more mutually balanced, fulfilling relationships. I provide individualized therapy that focuses on helping you discover more about your internal experiences - your stories, narratives, motivations, strengths, and desires. Together, we will work to find your intuitive voice, build your internal sense of self-worth, push through the discomfort and resistance of change, and develop practices that alter the dynamics of your relationships, including the one you have with yourself. My role is to create a safe space for you to uncover your true desires in life and build the skills you need to work towards them. Therapy is an opportunity for us to create, discover, explore, and practice. I will hold the space for the full range of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions that encompass your humanness, and I ask that you show up as an active collaborator and participant in the change you want to see.

My perspective on wellness involves the whole person. The approach I take may involve the realms of physical, psychological, emotional, and social wellness, not just the alleviation of symptoms. We, as a team will work together to ensure your goals are met. Modalities towards wellness may expand beyond the office, to include being surrounded by nature, incorporating exercise, or facing new fears together. Always, with your success in mind. I work with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I also conduct psychological evaluations and ADHD evaluations that may help to uncover issues and guide treatment. I am a Certified ADHD Professional, and have specialities in the areas of anxiety, sports performance, and I am also a certified personal trainer. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I value aloha and family. Whether you or someone you love may be going through a difficult time, I am here to help and will welcome you with open arms, just as I would my own family. I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you!
Many of the students I work with feel overwhelmed by their thoughts, anxious about the future, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. Some deal with intrusive thoughts, constant worry, or panic that gets in the way of school, relationships, or sleep. Others are coping with past experiences, burnout, or the pressure to “keep it all together.” I offer a space where you don’t have to pretend you’re fine. Together, we slow things down, understand what’s happening in your mind and body, and build tools that help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life.

Is this impacting your job, your ability to complete schoolwork, your relationships, or perhaps other aspects of your life that are important to you? Let's work on this together. Reaching out for help may feel scary but I can help you stand in your power.

Rui Dolen is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in the treatment of trauma, developmental trauma, and reactions to other stressful events in children and adults. Rui is a somatic therapist combining Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and Attachment-Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (AF-EMDR), as well as parts work (ego states). Rui's approach is a holistic (mind-body-spirit), non-violent, mindfulness-based, and attachment-based somatic approach, as well as based on Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) which is also the foundation of Rui's parenting consultation and coaching practice. Rui became passionate about parenting during her trauma work with children and families because she realized parenting is the prevention of trauma and we can all change the world through intentional parenting. After struggling with infertility, Rui now is a mother of a 28 weeks preemie baby who survived multiple surgeries and various feeding issues during the first year of her life. Embodying her own trauma practice, and with the support of her professional communities, she has been on her healing journey and grateful for her little miracle every day. Rui was born and raised in Beijing, China. With her eastern background, she is connected to mindfulness-based practice and life philosophies, personally and professionally. Growing up, Rui has seen her own family and the society in China suffering from different forms of trauma including generational trauma. Her innate curiosity and determination led her to study Psychology in the U.S. Rui holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from California Lutheran University. Since then, along with founding her own private practice, The Wholistic Connection, Rui also is a part of the mental health team at AMDA College & Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Hollywood. Rui also has worked with Strength United, Pacific Clinics, Pacific Asian Counseling Services, and most recently the intensive outpatient program at Community West. In her free time, Rui is a yogi, major foodie, Airstreamer, and traveler. Her husband and she traveled around the world for a year in 2016. Her best getaway is to take her baby, four dogs, and drive their airstream to camp in nature.

My passion is utilizing the powerful benefits of EMDR with creative people, performers and survivors of trauma who are ready to live without anxiety, depression, dissociation, phobias, addiction, and post-traumatic stress. By providing relationally-focused EMDR along with advanced training in psychotherapy methods (e.g. complex developmental trauma, attachment theory, neuroscience, Polyvagal theory, CBT, ego states, psychodynamic, object relations & “parts work”) we work together to: ✦ Discover the origins of limiting beliefs in order to update old narratives about how you get to show up in the world, who you are, and what you deserve. ✦ Alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms through a positive, growth-oriented process grounded in the philosophy that everyone is seeking wholeness. I have more than 25 years' experience in private practice specializing in trauma and creativity, and I am committed to continued learning and growth as a way of life. Having led thousands of EMDR sessions since 2010, I’m also an EMDRIA Approved Consultant teaching other EMDR Clinicians best practices through case consultations and presentations, and speak internationally about creativity, post-traumatic growth, creative artist issues and the benefits of EMDR therapy at conferences, on podcasts, as a TEDx speaker, and on TV. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that are hard to shift. Whether you're facing depression, relationship stress, family conflict, or painful thoughts that won’t let up, therapy offers a space to feel supported and understood. You don’t have to go through it alone. College life can bring its own unique pressures. Therapy provides a space to process what you're feeling, build coping tools, and find clarity in the middle of it all. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness. It’s a strong and meaningful step toward healing, growth, and creating the life you want.
I combine a warm and direct approach with evidence-based practices (and a splash of humor) to help you unpack, examine, and rewrite the narratives in your life. Drawing from modalities such as Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, we will work to align your thoughts and actions with your values so that you can lead the life you want. I view relationships and identity development through the lens of attachment theory with the goal of helping you draw clear connections from the past to the present and into an expansive and joyful future. I know this is not easy, and take care to cater our work to meet your unique needs. I work with individuals, couples, and families, and have experience treating anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, attachment issues, self-esteem, identity development, medical diagnoses, and trauma. I work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as nonmajority identified individuals. I especially enjoy working with families and individuals navigating creative blocks, pregnancy/postpartum, multicultural issues, and academic concerns. I earned a masters of science from the University of Oregon, where I received systems-based clinical training in a community counseling center, a school-based health center, and a group practice. In addition to my clinical training, I hold a masters of fine arts in Creative Writing from Oregon State University, where I also taught writing courses and worked as an academic advisor. I am a writer turned therapist who grew up in the Bay Area but spent a decade in the forests of Oregon. Raised in a Jewish South American family, I keep my culture alive through customs, food, music, and speaking Spanish whenever I can. When I’m not working, you can find me exploring the Ojai Valley while listening to This American Life, knitting hats for friends, and chasing my toddler around at the beach. Sessions are $150 for individuals and $175 for families and couples. I consider any session with minors to be family sessions as I believe this is the most effective way to treat kids and teens. As a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #144237 I work under the clinical supervision of Erika Morris, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #120118.
