I look for the positive and lean more toward growth and empowerment instead of disorders. My focus is to help people live well and overcome their obstacles. Everyone deserves to find meaning and joy in their lives.

I believe that mental health is a journey of piecing together multiple working parts, and I hope to be a part of that process with you. About Me I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving the states of Georgia and Maryland. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, families, and young adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice). I also currently hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Social Work. I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a positive, safe, and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you. Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my pets, finding challenging hikes, cooking/baking, going to the beach/finding water, gardening, exploring the city, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy picking up new creative projects and DIYs! Who I Help & What I Help With Who I Can Help 1. Children (6-12) 2. Teens (13-17) 3. Emerging & Young Adults (18-29) 4. Adult Couples What I Can Help With 1. Relationship issues or losing a relationship 2. Adjusting to and navigating life transitions 3. Improving unhealthy/disruptive habits and behaviors 4. Feeling sad or depressed 5. Trauma and loss 6. Feeling overwhelmed or anxious 7. Feeling alone or disconnected from others 8. Experiencing stress at work, school, or home 9. Conflict resolution and problem-solving 10. Learning to value and love yourself My Approach Types of Therapies It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy a bit nervous and with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you. The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown by research to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include but are not limited to: 1. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) 2. Psychodynamic Therapy 3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) 4. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) 5. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) 6. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) 7. Person-Centered Therapy 8. Narrative Therapy 9. Culturally Sensitive Therapy Services & Payment Things to Know First 1. At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. 2. You may choose the mode with which you are most comfortable (i.e., video, phone). 3. Virtual sessions are a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. How to Get Started Ready to get started? For scheduling of any kind (free consult, intake, regular sessions, etc.), just head to the “Contact Me” tab or the “book appointment” link at the bottom of every page of this website. You can schedule your first appointment on your own and whenever you’re ready with no initial contact required. Please note that I am committed to your privacy. Therefore, please do not include confidential or private information if you choose to email or call. Further and more detailed information will be exchanged through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. I look forward to speaking with you! Visits with me typically involve the following types of sessions: Intake Session: Assessment & Planning (60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $200) It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist, and while you have the option of beginning with a phone consultation or intake session, the first few sessions serve to help you and me decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. The intake also serves as an Assessment and Planning phase, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. This phase also allows me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions if you are comfortable with moving forward. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy session. Regular Individual Therapy Session (30-60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $90-$180) Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together. Please note that 30-minute sessions are private pay only. These sessions may work well for children and adolescents, day-to-day check-ins, more solution-focused sessions, quicker access to therapy, etc. Regular Family Therapy Session With Client (30 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $108, Private Pay Only) When needed, family sessions provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, address relational dynamics, and support your child or adolescent’s progress in treatment. These sessions may include parents/guardians, caregivers, and/or siblings depending on the goals we establish together. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Brief Family Therapy Session Without Client (15 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $54, Private Pay Only) These brief check-ins offer a dedicated space for parents and caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and stay connected to their child’s therapeutic progress without the client present. They are not a replacement for regular family sessions but rather, serve as a lightweight touchpoint between sessions when needed. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Couples Therapy Session (60 minutes; $216, Private Pay Only) Couples therapy sessions provide a structured space to address relational concerns, improve communication, and work toward shared goals within the relationship. These sessions are designed to support both partners in understanding relational patterns, navigating conflict more effectively, and building a stronger foundation for daily functioning together. Please note that all couples therapy sessions of any length are private pay only. Payment Options In-Network Insurance & Third-Party Payers I currently accept the following insurance plans in Georgia: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans I currently accept the following insurance plans in Maryland: 1. Aetna 2. Cigna/Evernorth 3. United Healthcare/UBH/Optum 4. Medicaid/Carelon Behavioral Health 5. Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans This means that if you are enrolled in any of these plans (or potentially any of their subsidiaries), your out-of-pocket expense is limited to your deductible and copay/coinsurance. While I can assist in determining what these costs will be, it may be helpful to ask your insurance provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 2. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *I am currently working to become a provider in network with Anthem as well as any applicable subsidiaries under Anthem in the state of Georgia. I am also currently working to become a provider in network with CareFirst as well as any applicable subsidiaries under CareFirst in the state of Maryland. Private Pay & Out-of-Network Reimbursement I also accept private pay, and if you have another insurance provider, you may also have out-of-network benefits. With this option, your insurance benefits may reimburse the majority of the cost of therapy. With both private pay and out-of-network reimbursement, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements later from your insurance provider. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works. It may be helpful to ask your provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. Does my plan provide out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services? 2. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 3. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *Lack of insurance coverage, privacy concerns, flexibility, and quicker access to care are only a few of the reasons why one might choose this option. Cancellation Policy All clients are required to have an active credit/debit card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or inactive insurance, you will be charged in full regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. You may still apply this fee to future appointments. Contact Me Ready to get started? “Baby steps” + “you gotta feel it to heal it” are two truths that guide my work as a therapist. I believe healing unfolds when we move at a pace that honors your body, your story, and your inner knowing. I show up with care, curiosity, and a liberatory-focused, neurodivergent-affirming lens to support your growth, self-trust, and embodied healing. As a 1.5-generation, neuroqueer, Afro-Latina AuDHDer, I understand the complexities of moving through a world not designed to hold all of who you are. I offer space for PoGM, QT2BIPOC, 2SLGBTGEQIAP+, immigrant, and neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD, OCD, CPTSD, etc.) adults to explore, reclaim, and come home to themselves.
Let’s face it - life can be challenging. Between work, family, health, and hobbies we’re pulled in many different directions and have plenty to worry about. Add on the national and global events many of us are struggling with; it can all feel so heavy sometimes. These challenges can feel even more looming when we believe we are facing them without any support. I understand that reaching out for help is a brave step. Imagine a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment, guided by a caring professional committed to your journey and who believes in tailored approaches that honor your unique experiences. Together, we can uncover insights and develop strategies that empower you to lead a more fulfilling life.
Hi, I'm Aliyah! I work with clients who are depressed or anxious, having issues with family, or simply just need a space to vent and figure out things as we go. Many of my clients have ADHD, Autism, OCD, Anxiety, or Depression. I am direct and solution-focused, so we'll get to the root of your unhelpful habits/patterns and figure out a game plan on how to move forward. I also do offer a sliding scale (therapy for cheaper rates) as college is already expensive enough! If you're ready to stop feeling like you're just getting through your day, reach out today. Evening & Saturday options available.

“I have learned now that while those who speak about one’s miseries usually hurt, those who keep silence hurt more.” - Clive Staples Lewis Beginning the process of therapy can be intimidating, overwhelming, and scary. I completely understand and have been where you are. Sitting in silence only prolongs the inevitable. Trying to resolve the problem with the help of a friend or loved one eases the burden temporarily but you may not get to the core. Working with a trusted therapist, you begin to understand your deeper thought processes, the ineffective loops you’re likely stuck in, and the fear-based thoughts holding you back. I help people struggling with stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relational conflicts. I begin where you stand now. I move slowly, gently, and respectfully towards the goals we create together. My therapeutic approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma, and Systemic Family Therapy. Some of my past experiences include working with individuals and couples in several private practice locations over the years, an inpatient drug/alcohol addiction treatment center, and at a U.S. Air Force base helping military members and their families. I also worked as a mental health counselor in a close-security prison for 3 ½ years helping male inmates struggling with mental health issues. A few fun facts about me: I spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and have lived in multiple countries and states. I've been married to my beautiful bride for over 20 years and we are empty nesters (if you don't count our 4 pets)!
Hi there! My name is Sarah. As both a counselor and music therapist, I specialize in bringing music and expression into mental health. I believe that we need to process our emotions and experiences through more than just words. I help clients to explore who they are, who they want to be, and how to find balance in a life that feels authentic for them. I integrate several therapeutic modalities, with a focus of shifting out of our heads and into the body.
I enjoy working with students who find themselves looking for help with anxiety, OCD, stress, and feelings of burnout. A lot of my clients identify with being high-achieving and introverted. From my own experience in college and working with college students for the last 10 years, I know school can be both fun and exciting, but also overwhelming and stressful. Please don't hesitate to reach out (via phone or email) to see if you'd like to work with me - I always start with a free 20 minute consultation call to get to know potential clients.
I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in adolescence and young adulthood. I completed a fellowship at Mclean Hospital in Adolescent Mental Health. I was previously a psychologist at Mclean Hospital's Klarman Eating Disorders Center where I specialized in the care of individuals struggling with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and associated concerns. I enjoy working collaboratively with a client, couple, or family to understand how someone's struggles relate to their larger goals, hopes, and motivations and how to work to understand their experiences together and move closer to those goals. I use approaches to therapy that focus on understanding the role and functions of emotions and behaviors, understanding someone's experience in the context of relationships, and utilizing strengths and competencies in the therapy process. In addition to individual therapy, I have a passion for working with couples, families, and in relationship based therapies. I also provide parent consultation for parents supporting their child or adult child through an eating disorder. Please reach out if you have any questions and would like to schedule a complementary initial phone consultation.
