As a pansexual, genderqueer, and religious minority therapist, I have a passion for supporting clients who have similarly felt “othered” for their own intersecting identities. I identify as an integrationist in my therapy style, where I tailor my approach to your concerns in a way that fits your individual needs. Prior to my doctorate, I worked as a risk-reduction counselor for a nonprofit STI testing center, where I discovered my passion for caring for those historically underserved in the LGBTQ+ community. Accordingly, I view my six years of training in counseling psychology as a means to uplift those who are historically underserved. Although I have worked in many settings such as community counseling and outpatient hospitals, I found a love for serving young adults in university counseling in both health sciences and general areas of study. I feel honored to help people at a crossroads of their own identity exploration. If you also find yourself wanting to explore yourself and your values, I would love the opportunity to connect with you.

I provide psychotherapy to adults of all ages, creating a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their experiences, gain insights, and develop coping strategies. I specialize in helping clients navigate relationship concerns, life transitions, identity issues, trauma, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and academic challenges. With a genuine and authentic presence, I empower clients to reach their fullest potential. Hailing from the vibrant streets of New York City and raised in a culturally rich Nigerian-American household, I am deeply committed to enhancing mental health care within marginalized communities. A fierce advocate for social justice, I recognize the profound influence of systemic oppression on well-being and strive to address the intersectional nature of social injustices in my work. I believe that therapy is most effective when centering clients' unique cultural backgrounds and values, helping them navigate and resist oppressive structures. Through my experience providing therapy at the Buffalo State University Counseling Center and my ongoing doctoral training in Counseling Psychology at the APA-accredited program at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, I have become attuned to the unique challenges and joys faced by students and early career professionals. - I offer limited evening and weekend availability.

Students work with me when painful experiences of anxiety, depression and stress interfere with their ability to find enjoyment and success in relationships and academically. Psychotherapy with me usually begins with a discussion of the concerns, problems and distress from which you are suffering and seek relief. The goal of the work is to solve the problems, alleviate the distress and place the concerns in the context of your personal development. Results of this effort often include increased self-awareness, enhanced self-esteem, recognition of unique strengths and potentials, and more positive feelings. Appreciation of one’s unique circumstances and developmental history makes for a more meaningful therapy experience. I have over twenty-five years of experience as a former college counseling center Director and Dean.

College and early adulthood can be exciting while also overwhelming, confusing, and exhausting. If you’re feeling like life is harder than it should be, you’re not broken, and you’re definitely not alone. I have clinical experience in supporting individual clients with anxiety, depression, suicidality, codependency, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions, with particular interest in working with clients who are seeking support around complex trauma, narcissistic abuse, religious trauma/spiritual abuse, family of origin issues, and other relationship concerns. My hope is to support clients toward experiencing emotion regulation, attunement with their bodies, self-compassion, self-understanding, authentic and healthy relationships, and a meaningful life. Using an attachment-based and trauma-informed lens, I primarily draw from ACT, DBT, IFS, and somatic approaches to support clients with practical coping tools as well as facilitate a space in which clients can make sense and meaning of their experiences. I also work with couples to support communication difficulties, emotional distance, trust concerns, cultural/familial differences, and partnerships with different neurotypes. I use a neurodivergent-affirming framework, incorporate EFT principles, and have completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I would love to connect and talk more about what you're looking for from therapy!

I've worked with children, teenagers, and adults struggling with significant emotional and behavioral challenges for 16 years and have found that no matter the difficulty things can improve with hard work. Whether one's goal is emotion regulation, behavior change, or the exploration and cultivation of identity and meaning, the use of a therapeutic relationship based on honesty, authenticity, and mutual respect can have a profound impact on one's life course. While this work is challenging it can be life changing, allowing a person to develop their talents and gifts in ways that enrich their lives and the lives of others. My clinical specialty is work with young people who are struggling significantly with their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, including those who have not found therapeutic success elsewhere. I also tend to work well with kids and young adults who are undecided as to their interest in psychotherapy, and who have strong personalities. I have extensive experience with complex psychological difficulties and believe that successful therapy requires dedication and hard work on the part of both participants. I also believe it's important that this work includes a search for meaning and understanding on the one hand and the development of practical, useful life skills on the other.

My clinical work is grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I provide ongoing individual psychotherapy for adults, with a particular interest in working with college, graduate, and professional students who are interested in understanding themselves more deeply and exploring the ways that relationships, identity, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and academic or professional pressures affect their psychological functioning. I believe longer-term psychotherapy can be particularly valuable for students whose concerns may not be adequately addressed through brief or symptom-focused treatment alone. My aim is to provide a space where students can address immediate difficulties while also developing a greater understanding of the patterns, conflicts, and relationships that contribute to those difficulties.

In my practice, I am particularly passionate about working with young adults as they navigate the unique pressures and transitions that are present during this stage of life. Whether you are adjusting to a new phase, questioning purpose or direction, experiencing self-doubt, or feeling overwhelmed, you do not need to figure it out alone. My approach is grounded in building a collaborative relationship that focuses on understanding your unique goals. I aim to build a partnership that feels safe and allows you to openly explore what you are experiencing and feeling with curiosity and honesty. Together, we can determine what is working for you and where you might feel stuck. Many clients work with me in order to shift something about their relationship with themselves or with others. This may mean building self-confidence; clarifying values; or quieting self-criticism. We may also work through navigating conflict; setting boundaries; or healing from past trauma. Please visit my profile on psychologytoday.com or my website to learn more about me and my practice, and feel free to reach out to see if we might be a good fit!
