Therapists for college students near Chicago, IL
Jessica Golub
During my eight years on staff in college counseling centers, I fully enjoyed helping college and graduate students be their best selves. Sometimes that involved offering concrete information about something specific, such as ADHD, and sometimes that has involved helping a person feel better about themselves or get more satisfaction out of life and out of relationships. I enjoy working together with students who are interested in exploring the obstacles to getting what they want out of life.

At RISE Wellness & Therapy, PLLC our philosophy is to believe in you when you have difficulty believing in yourself and to hold on to hope until you can hold it on your own. Following a strength based, relational model we believe that you are the expert in your life and through the therapeutic relationship you have the opportunity to create a healing experience. Now, therapy may not always be easy, but it will be intentional. Just like all relationships, it will be imperfect, but it will be a safe and accepting place for you to explore how to become the version of yourself you want to be. Much like the phoenix, you can rise from the ashes renewed, and ready to raise your possibilities.

Melissa is an LCPC in Illinois. As an Aud_HD therapist, she offers individual therapy, family therapy, and parenting support. She has lived experience, and has received neuro-affirming training in supporting the neurodivergent community, specifically Autism, ADHD, PDA, CPTSD, OCD and Giftedness, with a particular interest in providing acknowledgement and support for the misattunement and trauma that often is a part of our lived experience. She is passionate about supporting clients in their journeys of understanding themselves internally with authenticity and acceptance, including those who are exploring their gender and/or sexual identities. She uses different modalities as a way of giving clients options that fit them. Melissa loves somatic based approaches, including Transformative Touch Therapy, where the work is to support the client through pre-verbal attachment wounding, eventually working through integrating primitive reflexes. It is her passion to connect with her clients and give them a space to explore their intrinsic experience with curiosity, compassion, and understanding. When she is not in the therapy room, Melissa enjoys presenting to private practices and facilitating groups to build community for those supporting autistic clients and families. You can work with Melissa in the state of Illinois through telehealth or in person in Hinsdale.

You’re tired of: - Overthinking - Feeling overwhelmed - A heightened sense of worry - Your mental energy being depleted - Thinking about the worst case scenario - Being critical of yourself - All-or-nothing thinking - Feeling like an imposter - Worrying about disappointing others - Avoiding things that make you anxious - Comparing yourself to others - Unsubstantiated fear - Procrastinating - Being unable to set boundaries - Having difficulty identifying or communicating what you need - Feeling like you “should” be doing certain things, even if you don’t want to - Neglecting self-care You have a simmering undercurrent of anxiety, and your entire life feels like a list of obligations. You feel weighed down, overwhelmed, and stressed. You’re pathologically helpful and a self-proclaimed people pleaser, so you find yourself gritting your teeth to make it through the day……but you paste a smile on your face and fake it. From the outside you’re successful, high-achieving, respected, and known for going above and beyond, but internally, you know your truth. You’re overly self-critical, procrastinate often, script conversations in your head, and worry about everyone else’s expectations of you. What if you could feel confident saying no to things that don’t serve you? What if you could learn how to put yourself first without feeling selfish? What if you could live a more balanced, intentional, and fulfilling life? Let me help you get clarity on what you’re feeling, why, and how to fix it. We all have “blind spots” that hold us back in some way, and it takes an outside perspective to help identify these. Even if you think… - you’ll let others down - you’re not as smart or capable as your colleagues - you need to have a clear plan - mediocrity is unacceptable - you have to maintain this facade in order to be successful I will show you how to shift your thoughts and behavior in ways that will pave a clear path to joy and confidence. There is no greater investment in life than discovering your full potential, and that comes through insight and self-awareness. I work with emerging adults and adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, body image issues, grief, trauma, and questions related to identity, culture, and belonging. I have a particular interest in supporting women, individuals navigating multicultural or first-generation experiences, and those recovering from sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, and unhealthy patterns. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based approaches. As a first-generation American with a multicultural background, I understand that culture, family dynamics, and identity can play a significant role in how we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the challenges we face. My goal is to help clients develop greater self-understanding while creating meaningful and lasting change.

Prior to full-time clinical practice I was a tenured faculty member for many years. Most of my patients are trying to come to terms with their own histories, to feel more vital, and to chart an authentic path forward. I help people who find that they are stuck in their lives, and are perplexed by their reactions and those of others. I form a facilitating partnership that helps people reflect on their experiences and to make sense of them. This naturally opens new possibilities to live a more satisfying life. To my mind, finding one’s way requires a relationship with a thoughtful, genuinely caring, experienced person who is deeply engaged in helping. I strive to be that person.

My first question to any new client is, "How will you know when therapy is over?" Our discussion of the questions will help us both to define the goals of individual psychotherapy. Together we'll focus on solutions to problems, and build on the strength already there.
Sunrise Therapy
Our ideal clients are college students and emerging adults who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck while navigating academic pressure, social stress, identity questions, and the transition to independence. Many are high-achieving students who look “fine” on the outside but feel exhausted, disconnected, or constantly behind. Clients often come to us when anxiety, burnout, or overthinking is getting in the way of school, relationships, or daily life. As a team, we provide a warm, collaborative space and practical, evidence-based tools to help students manage stress, build coping skills, and feel more grounded, confident, and connected.
