If you are struggling with a life transition, relationship issue or feeling stuck in a cycle of worry or sadness, I am here to listen to you and help. Together, we will explore the challenges you are facing, gain insight into deeply rooted patterns of behavior, and identify skills to help you live life according to your own values. My style is active and engaged, and my clients find therapy to be a safe, supportive and collaborative space. I believe that kindness, warmth, humor and curiosity are vital to a successful therapeutic experience, and that every person has strengths that can assist them in navigating the obstacles they face. I have specialized in working with college and graduate students for the past nine years. Treatment is tailored to each individual using an integrative approach. I currently practice through Telehealth for clients in NY, CT, and MA. One of the most important elements of successful therapy is your connection with your therapist. Please reach out to me to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation to decide if we would be a good fit. I look forward to beginning our work together!

Whether you are currently in crisis and/or have been wanting to unravel and alter unhelpful and possibly destructive patterns, I welcome your contact. I work with individuals and couples and have expertise in a wide-range of areas. These areas include, but are not limited to relationship conflicts, mood disorders, trauma, family of origin conflicts, medical conditions, LGBTQ+ related struggles, addiction and issues related to social justice. When appropriate, I encourage adjuncts to psychotherapy such as movement, creativity, pursuit of passion and related self-care. It can be a very courageous action to seek mental health treatment. We will go at a pace that is the right mix of comfortable and challenging. I have complete respect for who you are and what you are bringing to me now. The connection that develops between me and the people I work with is central to the healing and growth that takes place. I welcome your contact to explore whether we might be a good fit and/or to schedule an initial session.

I've worked with students in the Boston area to address a range of issues from stress with friendships and school, to struggles that require an increase in care. I'm an enthusiastic advocate of short-term therapy because it fits so well within the changing circumstances of college life. If you are interested we can try expressive arts therapy techniques like art, music, drama. Sometimes, tapping into your creativity can speed up the process of therapy.

Some clients arrive feeling the weight of their anxiety. Others are in the middle of a transition—navigating changes in relationships, family dynamics, or adjusting to a new diagnosis or ongoing health condition. These transition moments can bring a level of uncertainty that’s hard to tolerate and often lead to second-guessing, especially when your body or health begins to feel unpredictable or outside of your control. I also work with individuals who experience intrusive thoughts or feel caught in patterns meant to prevent something bad from happening. These thoughts can feel unsettling or even at odds with who you are—making them confusing, distressing, and difficult to talk about. For some, these experiences are connected to obsessive-compulsive patterns (often referred to as OCD), even if that’s not a term you’ve used for yourself before. There are effective, evidence-based ways to work with OCD patterns, and we can talk through what that might look like for you. At the heart of my work is the belief that therapy is a collaborative process. You should want to talk to your therapist, and from the very beginning, I focus on creating a space where you can talk openly about what’s actually on your mind. The relationship between therapist and client matters deeply. Meaningful change tends to happen when people feel understood, respected, and able to show up honestly— even when what they’re bringing to session feels messy, confusing, or hard to put into words. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and no single approach works for every person or every situation. I draw from a range of approaches and tailor the work to each client’s needs, goals, and experiences. Depending on what feels most helpful, this might include building a clearer understanding of the patterns you’re caught in, exploring where those patterns come from, or finding new ways to respond to them. Across all of this, my focus is on helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing and shift the patterns that are keeping you stuck so they begin to have less of a hold on you over time.

I am currently accepting new clients with evening and weekend availability. My practice is rooted in the core assumption that people are doing the best they can at any given moment. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who desire change and want to reduce their suffering. My primary focus is helping individuals navigate life transitions related to adjustment to college, relationships, career, and identity. Together, we’ll work toward healing patterns that no longer serve you and develop practical skills for lasting change. I view my clinical work through a trauma-informed lens with a focus on empowering individuals through identifying and utilizing their strengths, resources, and resilience. My specialties include depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, low self-esteem, and family conflict. I spent the first 5 years of my career receiving extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy at McLean Hospital, a leading psychiatric facility affiliated with Harvard Medical School. I believe that all people have the capacity for change and healing. My aim is to work collaboratively with you to bring about insight and personal growth. I look forward to connecting with you!

Though it may be difficult to see the opportunity for healing and change in the midst of a struggle, seeking help is a first step toward new possibilities. I am dedicated to building a deep relationship with you and provide a private and safe space for you to explore your concerns. Through the process of self discovery many find greater equanimity, purpose, and compassion, and an expanded capacity for love. My specialties include identity concerns, existential challenges and crises, cultural adjustment, life transitions, depression, anxiety, loss and grief and trauma. I enjoy working with college and graduate students, international students, and young adults. I also enjoy working with creatives, scientists, healthcare professionals, activists and meditators and bring my own direct experience with meditation and creativity to my work. My therapeutic lens is psychodynamic and is deeply informed by Buddhist psychology. I integrate mindfulness practices, meditation, breath work, and Compassion Focused Therapy in my approach. My practice is collaborative, holistic, and flexible, holding space for all aspects of wellbeing, the emotional, physical, spiritual, relational, and creative. I have been the field since in 1994 following a career in the arts. Hi, I’m Emma. I’ve been the trusted guide for many people looking to make meaningful change in their life, and I’d love to help you too. You can look to me for help discovering what motivates you, what will help you grow, what invisible scripts and stories have been holding you back and what identity feels most true. We will work together on the hard questions, the uncomfortable feelings, the painful narratives. I get it, life can be a bit much sometimes. Stress can come at you from every angle. Identity issues can leave you unsure of who you are. Relationship issues can leave you feeling disconnected and alone. I’m tough, I’m fair and I’m caring. It’s a powerful combination for lasting change. I’m here to help, to listen and to work through whatever it is that brought you here. I approach my work with an eclectic style, having been trained in a wide range of specialities and identity categories. You often wish you felt better about yourself, didn't get so easily overwhelmed, and could handle conflict but aren’t even sure where to start. You’ve found yourself questioning if you should talk to someone. You’ve come to the right place! College life is full of changes and challenges. Even if they are good, changes can sometimes be more than we have bargained for and create a lot of stress and anxiety. Through their work with me, my clients have experienced feeling less overwhelmed by emotions, found effective ways to handle conflict with others (like roommates and partners), felt more connected/present, and gained more confidence in themselves. My clients describe me as welcoming, witty, direct, knowledgeable, and relatable. My style of therapy is very collaborative and conversational as I share tools that you can use in between our sessions. You can reduce the amount of anxiety you experience. At the very least, I can help you manage it in a different way that is less disruptive to you, your relationships, and achieving what you want to in school.

My goal is to help you break free from self-judgment and step into a healthier, more balanced version of yourself. We’ll work together to understand all aspects of who you are, using a holistic approach that acknowledges both your struggles and your strengths.

I am a warm, straightforward therapist focused on providing effective treatment. I work to connect genuinely with each of my patients because I believe the first component of effective treatment is the formation of a trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. With this relationship as the foundation, we can then collaboratively determine your goals and take measurable steps to achieving the change you want in your life. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, sexual and gender identity, suicidality, emotion regulation, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship problems, family issues, academic and occupational stress, and life transitions. I specialize in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These approaches seek to provide practical skills to manage the emotions and thoughts that are interfering with our lives. I have also trained in trauma based and exposure protocols. In addition, I have specific training in supporting those who identify as gender non-conforming and offer both assessment and supportive counseling to individuals and families. I appreciate the courage it takes to talk with a therapist. Therapy is a very active process, with both the client and the therapist putting in considerable effort, and I will work with you to create the treatment environment that best meets your individual needs.

People seek counseling / therapy for many reasons - to gain understanding and insights, make changes, process experiences, for support and encouragement, and many others. Whether you are looking for a safe place to discuss whatever is on your mind, are interested in making life changes, or just want to give therapy a try, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and see how I may be able to help. You can count on me to be reliable, truthful, and kind. My approach to therapy recognizes the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship. I identify as queer and specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I am an affirming practitioner. I have over 20 years of experience working with college and graduate students in college counseling centers, and as a result I've had the privilege of working with many people from all around the world. My therapeutic approach is culturally informed and integrates a whole-person perspective along with socio-cultural/political awareness and acknowledgement of the impact of systemic barriers on functioning. I am mindful of my own areas of privilege and how I show up in spaces and may be perceived by others. I attend to how I perceive others based on my own life experiences. I'm always working to educate myself and challenge my assumptions and biases. I read, try to keep up on the news (around the world, not just in the U.S.), and try to engage in conversations with people from various backgrounds. If you would like to have a brief, introductory conversation to discuss what you are looking for and how I may be able to help, please give me a call or send an email. An initial screening consultation is free. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm passionate about working with college students who are finding life to be overwhelming and exhausting. Maybe you're heartbroken over loss, burdened with guilt, feeling you'll never be good enough, are scared, or at wits' end. Or maybe something happened to you, and it sticks with you giving you no rest. When we feel this way, we tend to isolate, berate ourselves, and spiral in our thinking or distract ourselves from these debilitating feelings. You're not alone. These feelings and responses are common, and there are evidence-based treatments to help you make sense of your concerns, take good care of yourself, and take your next steps. My main approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) while also building a warm, therapeutic relationship. I'm also trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. That said, therapy is collaborative. You are the expert on yourself, and I will work with you to find the approach that best suits you. My goal is to help you not only feel better but to grow in ways that make a healthier life both possible and sustainable. Many people feel hesitant about starting therapy. Growth can be a challenging road—I hope to meet you on that road, and help with your journey.
