Life as a young person can be a complex journey, often filled with challenges that leave folks feeling adrift and overwhelmed. If you are someone who is struggling to navigate the intricate web of school/work, family, and relationships, I am here to help. Many college students find themselves feeling stuck, dwelling on the past, or consumed by worries about the future, making it difficult to remain present and truly engage with and take control of their lives and their futures. I meet clients exactly where they are at, offering empathy and understanding, and working collaboratively to promote integration, well-being, and positive change. My approach starts with building a strong relationship, and I draw from a diverse toolkit, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy, tailoring our sessions to the client's specific needs. Moreover, I have extensive experience working with adolescents and college students.

I work from a psychodynamic, relational perspective - I believe change happens through genuine connection. I bring deep listening, genuine curiosity about your experience, and a collaborative approach that helps you discover strengths you might not know you have. I've also worked in college counseling and specialize in working with college-aged adults. In addition to my therapeutic training, I also have a background in the arts, and enjoy working with creative people who are facing the struggles and pressures of living life as an artist. I also have training and certification in treating trauma.

As a psychologist, writer and consultant, my favorite population to work with are college students and graduate students, often managing mental health issues, while navigating independence, relationships and larger life choices all at once. In fact, I recently finished writing a book, "College Mental Health 101" based on hundred of interviews and thousands of students I've worked with over the years whose voices are in the pages. Whether its adjustment to school and making career decisions, to identity or family of origin concerns, to depression, anxiety and other mental health issues, I love working with students to find ways to improve their life circumstance. I have an academic interest in mindfulness, neuroscience and communication, and teach on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and globally.

Unstoppable! >> unstoppablestudio.org ***I have very limited availability at the moment, and am specifically prioritizing for therapy clients who specifically would benefit from my specialization: people who identify as neurodivergent or disabled*** My specialty Is working with neurodivergent, Autistic and disabled folks, as well as queer, trans and fat folks. I work primarily through a narrative lens and bring In CBT, DBT (I'm not certified), ACT and ERP (so many letters!) when those skills are needed. I work with disordered eating and body image issues through an intuitive eating, HAES and fat liberation lens. I also have a research background in psychophysiology and working with how emotions and trauma show up in the body. I have some ERP training for working with OCD, as well as executive functioning coaching experience for bringing the more practical day to day living skills into therapy. I may be an especially good fit for folks who want to bring In art making, craft or other creative practices to therapy. For example, working with body image through making and altering clothing. I am in network with Aetna and Optum (waiting on cigna, tufts and BCBS as well) and am accpeting clients ages 6-14 and 18-22

I would like to provide you with some information to help you determine if my practice might be a good fit for your needs. First, I am not able to accept insurance at this time. I do bill as an out of network provider for patients with PPO plans. I am hoping to in the future start taking Blue Cross Blue Shield, though this may be several months from now. Services & rates: • 80-minute Initial consultation appointment: $400 • 50-minute Goal-oriented psychotherapy appointment: $250 • 30-minute Psychopharmacology with supportive psychotherapy follow up appointment: $175 The psychotherapy that I practice is 10-12 week problem focused psychotherapy that uses skills from CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic principles with the goal of helping clients make intentional and measurable changes in their lives. My practice focuses on helping individuals with acute mild to moderate mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and those with life stressors. Due to my limited office hours, I am not equipped to treat conditions that could require urgent and immediate care; importantly, I do not treat chronic or treatment-resistant resistant mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, addictions, severe eating disorders, ongoing suicidality, or major neurocognitive disorders. If you do suffer from such conditions, I recommend seeking care through a health system that offers more services suited to treat your illness. Please let me know if you are interested in the practice. Once I hear from you, the next step is for you to fill out a pre-screen questionnaire. Please note that filling out this questionnaire does not guarantee an appointment. This is an initial way to ensure my practice is a good fit for your needs.

Fit is essential to good therapy. When the fit is right, therapy can become a practice space for navigating the complexity of relationships in everyday life. I value an open and collaborative approach so that together we can understand the challenges you face; those that are both in and outside of your conscious awareness. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, questions of identity, work difficulties, relationship conflict, going through a life change, or dealing with family-related stress, I believe that together we can understand and address that which holds you back. The following clinicians work in my practice and are also listed with Thriving Campus: Joel Stanley, Mental Health Counselor, and Dr. Shirley Poyau. I specialize in the treatment of complex trauma, a condition resulting from early and repeated exposure to neglect and abuse on the part of caregivers. I strive to create a space with clients where safety, in the context of a therapeutic relationship, can be experienced in order to promote recovery. I bring an awareness of the body and its various forms of communication into treatment, while also listening for layered meanings contained in the spoken word. I integrate psychodynamic principles and body-based approaches into my work. Social justice, equity, and cultural issues also significantly guide my clinical approach.

My practice focuses supporting people in clarifying their values and in living lives that realize their deepest values. I believe that there are many ways to be mentally healthy, and I pursue a pluralistic view of mental health, one which varies from person to person. I aim to be a patient and supportive companion for you to determine what is important to you and to make meaningful change. I have worked as a professor at a number of universities in the US and abroad, and I have also worked as a social worker for young adults with mental illness. My academic and psychiatric experience makes me an ideal fit for working with students (undergraduate or graduate) who are facing life transitions or mental health challenges. Therapy is an exciting journey and it is always a pleasure to meet new or potential clients. I look forward to hearing from you.

I divide my time between my private practice and Harvard University’s Counseling Center. I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents and adults who are experiencing difficult and challenging transitions in their lives. My style is direct, interactive, supportive and compassionate. I have found that some people seek counseling for short term solutions, while others are seeking a longer, deeper, transformative experience. Some goals I have helped my patients achieve include: overcoming inhibitions about relationships or career, becoming better self-advocates, managing stressful life transitions, exercising more control over choices and actions, and mourning the loss of a loved one/significant relationship. I often use CBT, DBT, and ERP to help clients maximize functioning.
