I have experience working in hospice and oncology social work. My areas of expertise are grief and loss, chronic, serious, and terminal illnesses, chronic pain, cancer and cancer survivorship, and caregiver fatigue. I serve adults (18+) and people over 65 and welcome those of varied ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
I view therapy not only as a means of reducing emotional distress but also as an approach to personal growth. However, I believe that therapy should not be a way of life and I therefore support clients in developing concrete skills, with emphasis on working with emotions: promoting a better understanding of emotions and emotion regulation. I view therapy as a collaborative process of exploration. I bring to this process an attitude of compassionate curiosity and non-judgment. I also draw on my own bi-cultural experience - I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. I practice emotion-focused therapy, which emphasizes the positive, adaptive roles of emotions. Sometimes, however, due to stress, trauma or adverse life events, emotions can become a source of distress. Through empathic, collaborative exploration I help my clients identify their authentic emotional needs and develop strategies for managing and regulating distressing emotions. If you are located in Western Mass (Pioneer Valley) I also offer walking therapy and animal assisted therapy. Therapy is my 2nd career. My PhD is in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) and my therapeutic work is informed by 25+ years of research in AI and cognitive & affective science. I am thus very familiar with academic environments and draw on this knowledge when working with students, both undergraduate and graduate.

My speciality is working with clients who are feeling stressed out and overwhelmed due to anxiety, feeling burnt out, or both. I support people in learning how to take charge of their anxiety by better understanding the physical and cognitive aspects of anxiety and developing a wide array of coping skills. Managing stress and anxiety is also about learning to set boundaries for yourself and others. I also help people with anxiety-based disorders such as OCD and social anxiety. I also help clients recovery from narcissistic/toxic abuse. My practice is a holistic approach which focuses on my clients' strengths and how to use them to their advantage in managing their mental health.

I'm a graduate of the Advanced Behavior Treatment Training Institute of the IOCDF, trained in ERP and ACT as well as standard CBT. I offer COMB/HRT for trichotillomania and excoriation, and CBIT for Tourette disorder. I'm a certified ADHD professional. I enjoy helping students learn to manage their executive functioning challenges and anxiety, depression, and OCD and related disorders, so they can succeed academically and enjoy the rich opportunities of college life.
