Are you trying to reach your goals, but feel like you're running in circles? I can help with improving your happiness, addressing a problem-area in your life, or whatever else you want to focus on. One-size-fits-all counseling doesn't work, so I individualize each client's experience based on what works best for them. I believe in a mind-body-spirit approach where we have to take care of all three to feel truly fulfilled, which is why I also offer Christian counseling. I have a Master of Arts in counseling (MAC). In addition, I'm a fully licensed practicing counselor (LPC), a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). I've also been trained directly through the Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Institute. Warmth and insight are the foundation of our sessions, especially as I understand we all need someone to be ourselves with. Life can be challenging at times, but we don't have to go through it alone. I became a counselor because of my passion for helping others, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or for more information!

I specialize in helping you learn to cope with overwhelming emotions, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, boundaries, anxiety, and chronic illness. I integrate evidence-based practices to guide you through roadblocks that keep you stuck. My therapeutic approaches are CBT, strengths-based, and integrative; meeting you where you are at, and assisting you with where you want to be. I obtained my Masters in Clinical Social Work from the University of Michigan, with a focus on mental health and integrated health. My ultimate goal is to offer a safe, comfortable, and open approach to heal. My therapeutic style focuses on “whole body healing.” I understand reaching out for help can be difficult. I encourage you to contact me if you are considering treatment. If I cannot be of assistance, I will gladly assist you with a referral.

I have personally experienced medical issues with my own children, childhood trauma, and sports related injuries. I have also personally dealt with anxiety and depression. I've had my own therapy journey, so understand how you feel throughout the process. We will explore past and current experiences you've had, as well as options that will be beneficial for you. I have years of experience with clients with disabilities, autism, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I was one of the lead therapists assisting survivors of the Parkland School shooting. I strive for a comfortable, open environment where you can discuss any issue freely. We work together as a team on this journey!

Root and Embody, PLLC
I am so honored you found yourself here. I believe therapy works best when you feel deeply understood—not analyzed or rushed. Before I’m a therapist, I’m a human who values gentleness, curiosity, and compassion. It’s truly a privilege to sit with folks as they share their stories, their pain, and hopes for something different. I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent (or “neurospicy”) humans and those whose nervous systems have been shaped by trauma. Therapy with me moves at a pace that honors your body, your boundaries, and your unique way of being in the world. There’s no pressure to perform or “fix” yourself. My work is grounded in experiential and somatic approaches, meaning we don’t just talk about what’s happening—we gently explore how your experiences live in your body, emotions, and relationships. This can be especially powerful for healing complex trauma, navigating chronic pain and reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have learned to stay guarded. If you desire to connect with a therapist that cultivates a safe space for you to explore healing without judgement and approaches your experiences with curiosity and empathy I invite you to this space. As a fellow neurodivergent, chronically ill, queer woman - I understand how exhausting life can be. Let us explore what living authentically means for you.

Mind and Body Counseling
Welcome! I am ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS... Most of my clients express feeling heard & hopeful after our first session. I believe a strong client-therapist connection is crucial in therapy. Finding the right therapist can be challenging and my goal is to make that process as comfortable as possible. It is natural to feel overwhelmed by life at times. Together we will create a personalized treatment plan with a focus on the whole person (mind and body), as every person & experience is unique. I utilize a strengths-based approach to help people identify what they are already doing well, and help them see & build on that potential. Small changes can make a big impact. I have specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) & Mindfulness-based stress reduction. Speciality areas include: relationship/family concerns, college/graduate student-related concerns, young adults, trauma history, anxiety, stress management, self care, pregnancy/pre/post-natal support & adjustment to life transitions. I am an independently licensed therapist and obtained my Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 2008. I enjoy spending time with my children and family outdoors, playing sports, yoga, and traveling. I look forward to getting to know you, and am available to answer any questions you might have!

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, social dynamics, or just feeling a bit disconnected from yourself. I’m here to sit with you in the in-between space and help you make sense of it all. College can be a lot. The pressure to keep up academically, friendships that shift without warning, questions about who you are and where you’re headed, anxiety that won’t shut off, or just that heavy feeling that you’re supposed to have it all figured out by now. A lot of students feel this way, even if it doesn’t always look like it from the outside. I’m Kate, a Licensed Master Social Worker with over ten years of experience. At Blue Horizons Counseling I work with college students and young adults dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and the many transitions that come with this stage of life. I keep things practical. We’ll use tools from CBT and solution-focused approaches so you actually walk away with things you can try between sessions. My style is straightforward and collaborative—I want you to feel heard without any pressure to perform or have the perfect answers. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions across Michigan, and I try to keep scheduling flexible around classes and work. Affordability matters to me too. Quality care shouldn’t feel out of reach. If you’re looking for a steady, no-pressure place to sort through what’s going on, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to talk whenever you’re ready.
