You're both reflective, and self-critical, constantly trying to prove yourself. The strive for perfection, and loud inner critic leave you feeling exhausted both physically and emotionally. You want to feel better, but don't know where to begin... Whether you're navigating anxiety, processing trauma, or youโ€™re exploring your relationship with food and/or your body, I want you to know things can get better. My work focuses on empowering college aged and younger adult women as they begin to connect with who they are, clarify what is important to them, and cultivate a life where they feel fulfilled, connected, and energized. My approach is warm, relational, trauma informed, and direct. I use humor when appropriate, and encourage my clients to show up authentically. I integrate somatic (body) based interventions like gentle movement, breathwork, and ifs-parts work with cognitive approaches to help you better identify, understand, and work through your thoughts and feelings. My passion is helping women explore and improve their relationships with food, their bodies, and ultimately, themselves. Together we can explore the deep rooted narratives you hold, and work on building a new story that feels both empowering and tangible. I strongly believe we heal through safe connection, so if you're ready and willing, let's connect!

If you are experiencing relationship difficulties or struggling with the effects of stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, or grief, I would be honored to support you. I am especially passionate about counseling diverse families and people of all ages while they navigate life transitions, identity development, and learning or social-emotional concerns. As a former teacher with eight years of experience in public schools, I am also skilled at supporting students and parents as they work to meet their educational goals.

I received my MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2009 and have since worked mostly in community mental health. Working mostly with women on body image, self-esteem, and finding your authentic self in a sea of people is my passion. I'm excited to move more fully into working with women in transitional spaces of life looking for support and validation about their desires and next steps. Showing up to therapy takes a lot of courage and trust. I want to help you feel as comfortable as possible telling your story to a total stranger; I usually do this with humor and silliness. Your story is important so our first session is also about me getting to know you, what brought you to therapy (the straw that broke the camels back), and what parts of your history might be linked to what brought you in today. My approach is humanistic, relational and trauma-informed. I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is the foundation for growth. Within that safe and compassionate container, I use somatic practices, expressive arts, play, movement and narrative techniques to help people access deeper truths. Spiritual and esoteric elements can also be woven in. *Please book an intro session through my website. All billing goes through my Headway website as well. Thank you!

Everyone is responsible for protecting and nurturing their mental health. Navigating through difficult life experiences can manifest stress, unhappiness, anxiety, anger, etc. Sometimes, we develop harmful ways to cope with these life experiences such as isolating ourselves, lashing out at others, abusing substances, among other things. It can be difficult to take the first step and reach out for therapy/counseling. However, taking that first step means that you're prepared to figure out how you can improve your circumstance and move forward. It's my mission to offer you support through your process of achieving mental wellness!

As social beings, people need the contact and acceptance of other people. It is not uncommon for people to experience things that disrupt or unravel their lives, and they feel they have no one to turn to who understands or accepts them. Whether this experience is anxiety, depression, stress, life changes, or trauma, my passion is to help individuals find healthy ways of coping and processing the events in their lives. As well as helping people connect with others in more meaningful ways. As everyone is different, I feel there is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone. Because of this, I have sought training in multiple therapeutic modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My educational background includes an M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. My Clinical internship was spent in a substance abuse/mental health facility in South Florida, where I worked with military and veteran clients. Before my degree, I enlisted in the United States Airforce and was trained as a Medical Technician/EMT.

Sarah Dietz
Psychologist
Wilmington, NC

Dr. Dietz's work as a psychologist is rooted in the belief that there is healing power in connection and in sharing oneโ€™s story. She works to provide an affirming space that allows clients to explore their experiences and challenges in a more nuanced and compassionate manner. Human beings have an innate need to feel seen and understood. In an increasingly isolating world, therapy offers clients the opportunity to feel less alone in their struggles, while also offering practical coping skills and strategies for growth. Sarah adopts a collaborative approach with clients, to ensure therapy is addressing goals that are valuable and relevant to each individual. Sarah is intentional about approaching clinical work with a multicultural lens as a means of acknowledging and honoring all aspects of clientsโ€™ identities and lived experiences. Sarah utilizes a trauma-informed and grief-informed framework to avoid pathologizing normative reactions to trauma and loss. Sessions will often include psychoeducation to help clients better understand and contextualize their challenges, experiences, and reactions.

Going to a counselor can be intimidating or nerve wracking. Will they accept me? What if I don't know what exactly I want to talk about in therapy? Or do I really want to open up about some of these things? All of these feelings are really normal when beginning counseling and I've had experience working with kids, teenagers, young adults, and adults to begin the journey of processing whatever they would like to work on in therapy. I offer collaborative, supportive, and honest therapy to provide my clients with therapy that helps them identify and work towards the changes they want to see in their lives. I would say my most successful clients have been clients who have been experiencing feelings of anxiety and processing past trauma. I have training in EMDR therapy to help assist with processing past trauma and I work from a theoretical framework of attachment theory, which emphasizes how past relationships impact current relationships. I also provide couples counseling as I have training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I am currently accepting new clients and I'd love to talk over phone or email to see if I might be a good fit for you!

My clients often say that they feel seen and heard by me. I am able to provide effective feedback and interventions that feel accessible to them. My approach is more conversational and relaxed as I follow the lead of my client. I weave in evidence based approaches in a way that feels more casual. I feel this approach helps with trust building. I approach our work together with a collaborative mindset. You are the expert of your life story and I am here to help you reach your goals and potential by guiding you thru the blockages and issues that you feel are holding you back.
