Therapists for college students near 27705
Welcome! I'm Shannon. I'm glad you're here, and acknowledge that connecting with a therapist is no easy step. Thank you for having the courage to contemplate connecting. For me, who you are - right now, in this moment - matters, is important, and is enough. Your voice matters; your story is important and set-apart; I wholeheartedly believe you are doing the best you can with what you have; and, I know you want to be the best possible version of You. I also know that change is hard. Taking steps towards one's best self often means looking into the corners of our lives; saying things aloud we've spent years only saying to ourselves; and, being willing to adjust our story from one filled with "if onlys" and "should'ves", to one of acceptance for our enough-ness then, and now. Change - it's not easy and can be uncomfortable, so it's my job to deeply listen; to affirm your experience; and, to create a space filled with reverence, safety, humility, loving-kindness, gentle challenge, and gratitude for your willingness to explore together. I will listen, if you are ready to share.

For example, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety is an evidence-based approach, as research supports its effectiveness in alleviating anxiety symptom. I have an extensive history treating individuals with anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc working in the private sector, VA, state facilities and other government agencies .
Carolina Counseling currently has two therapists that use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals understand how their feelings, thoughts and behaviors are all connected. It’s not always one defining event—often, it’s the cumulative impact of stress, anxiety, low self-worth, and unprocessed experiences that gradually erode your sense of well-being. You might be noticing a persistent undercurrent of worry, emotional exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, or a critical inner voice that’s hard to silence. Perhaps depressive symptoms have taken hold, or past experiences are continuing to show up in ways you can’t control. I work with teens and adults who are ready to explore what's beneath the surface and begin the work of healing. My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based practices. Whether we're unpacking the impact of trauma, exploring ways to better manage mental health symptoms or rebuilding your sense of self, we'll approach the process collaboratively and at a pace your nervous system can manage. You don't have to have anything figured out to start the therapy process. You just have to show up - and I'll meet you there. I encourage you to reach out if you think we will be a good fit!
