A Ray of Sunshine Therapy
Are you confused and do not know what your next steps are? Do you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the face staring back at you? If so, just know that this is the first step to a new start and I look forward to us working together to assist you in finding the balance. I have a love for people who are in the unknown and stuck points. People who are uncertain of themselves or their identity. Individuals that need to feel empowered and healed. Ones who have learned to operate on autopilot in the outside world only due to avoiding healing the inside world. If this sounds like you, reach out so we can unpack it together. During our sessions, we will develop a collaborative relationship where we work on any presiding issues that you have. This will allow you to really dig deep within yourself to gain a better understanding of your self-awareness. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to be your most authentic self. My therapeutic style isn’t your textbook therapist. I aim to provide some light through relatability, experience and knowledge, while we take a close look at how we can rewrite your story. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and I am to be more holistic. I will combine my personal and professional experiences to get you to a place of whole healing. Together, we will find a balance and your truest self.

I mainly help people who are experiencing challenges with anxiety, depression, setting boundaries, and relationships. Another group with whom I work are members of the adoption triad, being an adoptive mother myself and having worked in adoption for a number of years. I use a combination of modalities and together with my clients choose ones that work best with a particular challenge they may be experiencing. I believe that clients are strong and just need assistance in believing in themselves, so I focus on strengths rather than the medical model of "What's wrong with you?" Clients tell me that they love my positivity and sense of humor.
KBR Counseling and Services, PLLC
Extensive Experience I have dedicated my career to working with a diverse clientele, encompassing children, adolescents, and adults. My experience spans individual and group settings, allowing me to tailor my approach to the unique needs of each client. While my primary focus has been on outpatient services, including leading psychoeducational groups, I have also gained experience in other therapeutic contexts. Areas of Specialization My therapeutic expertise encompasses a wide range of presenting concerns, including: Personal Difficulties: Addressing challenges related to self-esteem, identity, life transitions, and personal growth. Behavioral Difficulties: Assisting clients in managing and modifying problematic behaviors that impact their daily lives and relationships. Emotional Difficulties: Providing support and guidance in navigating a range of emotions, including anxiety, depression, anger, and grief. Relationship Difficulties: Helping individuals and couples improve communication, resolve conflict, and build healthier relationships. Trauma and Family Difficulties: Supporting clients in healing from trauma, addressing family dynamics, and fostering healthy family relationships. Substance Use Disorder and Treatment: Providing evidence-based interventions for substance use disorders, including individual and group therapy, relapse prevention, and support for family members. Core Counselor Role My fundamental role as a counselor is to create a therapeutic environment that is characterized by safety, trust, and mutual respect. Within this space, clients and I collaborate to explore their experiences, challenges, and aspirations. By working together, we can identify new perspectives, develop coping strategies, and empower clients to make informed choices that align with their personal goals. Integrative Theoretical Approach My therapeutic approach is grounded in an integrative framework that draws upon multiple evidence-based modalities, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This approach focuses on identifying and modifying unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress and maladaptive coping patterns. Person-Centered Therapy: This approach emphasizes the importance of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness in fostering client self-awareness and growth. Motivational Interviewing: This approach utilizes a collaborative and client-centered style to elicit and strengthen motivation for change. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): This approach is specifically designed to address trauma and PTSD by facilitating the reprocessing of traumatic memories. Gottman Method Couples Therapy: This approach is based on extensive research on successful relationships and focuses on enhancing communication, conflict resolution, and intimacy within couples. Emphasis on Cognitive and Person-Centered Principles While I integrate various therapeutic modalities, my approach is particularly influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. I believe that our thoughts and perceptions significantly impact our emotions and behaviors. By helping clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, we can promote emotional well-being and adaptive coping. Additionally, I am committed to providing a therapeutic space where clients feel unconditionally accepted and valued, fostering self-exploration and personal growth. Collaborative and Empowering Therapeutic Relationship I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership in which clients are empowered to take an active role in their healing and growth. I am committed to providing compassionate and individualized support to help clients achieve their desired outcomes and live more fulfilling lives.

Welcome! I'm glad you're here. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s totally okay if you're not sure what to expect. Maybe you're adjusting to college life, navigating relationships, dealing with academic pressure, or trying to figure out who you are and what you want. Many of the students I work with share a desire to understand themselves better and to feel more in control of their emotions and choices. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin—we can work through it together. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you. In our sessions, you can expect a safe, non-judgmental space to explore whatever’s on your mind. Have you been feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, misunderstood? Do you find yourself questioning what’s next? Perhaps it feels like something is off course or missing from your life. We all go through periods of uncertainty and doubt, and sometimes we need help finding our way through. I offer a safe place to work through mental health and life issues. While I'm an expert on mental health I view you as the expert on you. We will combine our expertise to meet your goals. I'm a mental health counselor who guilds clients towards productive thinking, effective emotion regulation, and assertive communication. This will entail more than talking. Life is about action and so is therapy! I treat the whole person, using an eclectic approach rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe all dimensions of our health interconnect to form a complete picture. Whatever we do to our body affects our mind and our spirit. A similar relationship exists between our thoughts, emotions, and actions. A meaningful change in one of these areas will affect the others. This reciprocal relationship between our thoughts, emotions and actions is known as the cognitive triad. Example: Imagine you’re anxious about speaking in front of the class tomorrow. o You’re probably telling yourself all the reasons you can’t do it. That negative self-talk leads to anxiety and feelings of worthlessness. o As a result, you are actually more likely to perform poorly. o What if you talked to yourself differently? o Try encouraging yourself...listing all the reasons you can do it! o Your anxiety will likely decrease. Instead of feeling worthless, you’ll probably feel prepared and ready to present! o If you enter the classroom with the mindset that you can do it, then you’re actually more likely to succeed! I've been a counselor for over 8 years. Why did I become a counselor? Simple. I want to help people heal. I remember that feeling of helplessness as I watched people suffer throughout my childhood. I knew that when I grew up, I needed to do something to help. Accepting the call to become a counselor is the best decision I’ve ever made! As a counselor I am able to help others walk through life's challenges without feeling overcome by them. I began counseling clients of all ages in 2016. I transitioned to remote/telehealth counseling in 2020, and this year I launched my private practice. I currently counsel teens (ages 13-17), adults (18-100) and couples.

At Getting to Happy Wellness, I'll journey with you, step by step, on your road to healing, recovery, and getting to happy. I want to honor the courage it takes to seek counseling and make sure that finances never get in the way of healing and growth. You may be seeking counseling for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges, family and relationship conflicts, to dealing with stress, depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-awareness. I look forward to providing a safe, supportive and therapeutic space where we can collaborate and work at your own pace to help you reach your counseling and life goals. You deserve to live a life that makes you feel excited to wake up every morning. It's time to tell anxiety, stress, angst, fear, self-doubt, and low self-esteem that it's time to kick rocks. If you are riddled with anxiety due to biological or environmental causes, or if you have experienced significant traumatic events, I am here to help you. The stress of the past plus the fast paced nature of today's society makes navigating issues relating to your family, job, school, health, etc. completely overwhelming. This does not have to be the case. It's time to let go of the grip that emotional and psychological pain has on you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina with 6+ years experience as a mental health therapist and 10+ years experience working in the mental health field. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Mindfulness based strategies to reduce elevated states of stress. If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, low confidence, panic symptoms, social anxiety, relationship issues, or trauma related symptoms you are not alone in this. I believe in creating an environment that is safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing.

I specialize in working with college-age clients who grew up in chaotic or neglectful households. My clients often appear to have it all together- high-achieving, involved on campus, the friend everyone leans on. Despite this, they struggle with anxiety in relationships, fear of others' judgment, difficulty letting people get close, exhaustion that rest doesn't fix, and a sense of being lost or like an imposter, even when things look good on paper. Often, at the core of these struggles are unresolved wounds or narratives from early in life. During our most formative years, we adopt lasting beliefs about ourselves and the world- a blueprint we carry into adulthood. For many of my clients, that blueprint is resurfacing now, in the first real independence of college: new relationships, distance from family, and the pressure to figure out who they are outside of old roles. It shapes how they connect with roommates, partners, and friends, and how they handle the stress of exams, deadlines, and an uncertain future- often without their realizing it. These narratives, inherited from caregivers, family, or environment, become deeply ingrained and unconscious. While they may have helped us survive earlier in life, they can become counterproductive as we step into adulthood, creating invisible barriers to connection and well-being. Putting these thoughts into words in a safe space allows them to surface where they can be understood and rewritten.

I work with individuals dealing with life transitions, medical related issues, mood and affective disorders, and marriage, parenting or family issues. I also have my Yoga Teacher Training Certification as well as completing my certifications in Maternal Mental Health and ADHD. My approach to counseling places an emphasis on the relationship between the client and counselor and the promotion of growth. When needed, I use a variety of structured and non-structured interventions to best meet the needs of the client. I utilize empirically supported techniques, including cognitive and behavioral interventions, that focus on the ways in which individuals think about and respond to events. These interventions allow clients to restructure their thinking, process events and modify behaviors in more adaptive ways. I use a narrative and solution focused approach to collaboratively work with clients to identify successful past solutions to problems and how these strengths can be implemented in future situations. Small changes in the way clients view themselves and their own abilities to solve problems will encourage solution-oriented patterns to reach future goals.
