Therapists for college students near 10003
Hi I’m Terri! Entering college can be both exciting and stressful. Whether you are a “traditional” student entering adulthood or coming to college after building life experiences, I help students navigate the challenges that come with pursuing a college education. By using music techniques, I help students to discover what they need, define difficult emotions, deeper upstanding of oneself and a way forward by building new skills to navigate this next phase of life. To hear how I can help you with your individual concerns, please call me for a free 15 minute consultation or email me at Healingsonglcat@gmail.com.
I support college students dealing with life stress, trauma, anxiety, and identity concerns. My style is warm, direct, and grounded in real conversation. Together, we’ll focus on practical strategies and meaningful insight to help you feel more balanced and empowered.
I use my full experience from living in China, France, Japan, and the U.S., and from working in management consulting, nonprofits, and the arts in my work as a therapist. I am adept at working with people from varied backgrounds. I am astute, compassionate, and deeply committed to my clients' well-being. I engage my clients not only on the inner- and inter-personal levels, but also in the contexts of their intersecting roles and identities. I am attuned to the mutual influence that individuals and groups have on one another and the interconnectedness in life's pain and healing. By working with a caring and attuned professional, my clients can feel safe and free to explore and work through their experiences of depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, loneliness, shame, and anger, all the while developing their courage, resilience, understanding, and self-acceptance. I am fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and can supplement my work with advanced French and intermediate Spanish. I also provide consultation and training to early- and mid- career clinicians in the U.S. and China.
Life can feel overwhelming. You might be carrying past trauma, facing anxiety that won’t ease, or navigating a lingering sadness. Maybe you’re exploring how your identity has been shaped by culture, history, or generational pain—and you’re ready to reclaim your voice. Whatever brings you here, I want you to know: reaching out is a powerful first step. As a therapist with over a decade of experience, I create a trauma-informed space where you feel seen and supported. Together, we’ll face the hard stuff while making room for healing, hope, and growth. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions. My approach is rooted in decolonizing therapy—honoring how colonization, systemic oppression, and cultural narratives impact mental health. We’ll gently examine and unlearn internalized beliefs, reconnect with your resilience, and center your wisdom. This work isn’t just about surviving—it’s about liberation. I believe in the power of healing, especially in the face of profound pain. Therapy for me is about coming home to yourself—finding strength, wholeness, and meaning. If you're seeking someone who deeply listens, understands your complexity, and honors your story, I’d be honored to share this space.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Buffalo Integrative Psychology, PLLC. I believe that every person has an innate ability to heal, change, and grow when provided with a safe and supportive environment. Together, one of our goals will be to increase your self-awareness, identify your current struggles, and explore what might be getting in the way of change. This will help us journey to a heightened understanding so you can take the necessary steps to live a more fulfilled life. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I work to see, understand, and integrate all aspects of you, your environment, and your experiences to move toward healthy functioning. I often incorporate mindfulness into my work to help us get into touch with your experience in the here and now and to help you navigate difficult thoughts and emotions. As a therapist, I am warm, authentic, empathic, and curious. I understand just how hard it can be to start the process of therapy, and I will do everything I can to help you feel comfortable. I strive to be anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, and overall culturally responsive and inclusive.

My specialties include anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, cultural adjustment, work burnout, and major life transitions. In our work together, I create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted. I look forward to supporting you in building resilience, discovering your inner strengths, and creating meaningful, lasting change. I’m passionate about helping patients recognize their strengths by developing practical skills and deeper self-awareness. We achieve this together through therapeutic techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs, whether you’re seeking relief from emotional distress, wanting to strengthen relationships, or striving for personal growth. I believe that improving mental health goes hand in hand with enhancing your overall lifestyle and well-being. Working together, I provide a supportive space where you can better understand yourself, develop healthier coping skills, and work toward the life you want to live, all while identifying what's holding you back in order to move toward greater balance, confidence, and fulfillment. My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by both professional achievement and personal transformation. I began my career as a physician in Iran, where I developed a deep appreciation for caring for others during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. After moving to the United States, due to personal circumstances I was unable to complete my residency. Although this was one of the most difficult periods of my life, it also led me through a profound period of self-reflection and growth. During this time, I realized that my true calling had always been psychotherapy, and that realization inspired me to pursue counseling, a profession that allows me to connect with people on a deeper emotional level and support lasting change. Today, as a mental health counselor, I combine my medical background with evidence-based approaches such as CBT and DBT to help patients improve their overall wellness. I enjoy gardening and caring for plants, exploring local coffee shops, going on nature walks, and traveling. I also love trying new healthy recipes, watching sunsets, and spending time outdoors.
