Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Finding someone you feel comfortable with is important when searching for a therapist. Clients say I am warm, compassionate and non-judgmental, and provide a comfortable, relaxed and safe environment. My style is down to earth, and you will find it easy to talk to me and feel understood. My clients are individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, employment or relationship problems, or various life transitions. They may feel anxious, sad, angry, frustrated, depressed or confused. Sometimes they feel overwhelmed by their feelings, relationships, or life circumstances. Managing work or school, family and friendships is often demanding and stressful. I use an interactive approach to help clients re-examine fixed patterns of behavior that keep them stuck in unsatisfying situations. Past experiences, including relationships, can sometimes overload our thoughts and feelings. Increased awareness and new insights can often free clients to make more authentic and creative choices. I help clients find and build on their strengths, so that no matter what the reasons were that brought them to therapy, they become able to appreciate themselves in a deep and lasting way. Taking the step to call someone takes courage, and I look forward to receiving your call.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic and relational cultural therapy. For many, college is the best of times..the newfound freedom to discover who you are and where you’re going in your career and your relationships and the sense of all that’s possible. But, for others, it’s also the worst. Why? Because this is also a time of existential crises. New freedoms bring up so many questions: Is this really the relationship or career I want to pursue? If this is such a great time in my life, why do I feel so anxious, stressed, or depressed? Why can’t I regularly tap into the motivation I want to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do? Imagine how it feels… the waves constantly coming at you. You personally have to navigate these situations, because you’re the only one with all the answers. But it feels scary and shameful that you don’t have the foggiest clue of what you’re doing. And shouldn’t you already know by now?? Not at all! Truth is, college is a much more difficult time than most people acknowledge. But hard times can also be opportunities… for you to discover more fully who you are and how to embrace this ‘not-knowing.’ Our work together will help you learn how to make sense of all these different feelings, and cultivate the creativity needed to make something interesting and new out of all those questions. Instead of being pummeled by the waves, you can actually surf them! Instead of getting pulled in by the undertow, the barrage of self-critical and anxious thoughts that keep you up at night, I’ll help you learn how to approach these without fear and harness them so you can find your answers. Let’s get started! If you’re excited about putting aside the worry and the stress and finding your energy and direction again, call or email me so we can get started. College can be that great time you’d always hoped it would be.

As a clinical psychologist, I assist clients to address issues that are difficult to confront alone. I encourage self-reflection, help clients gain a clearer understanding of their life experiences and bring awareness to patterns of relating that are interfering with living a satisfying life. My orientation is primarily psychodynamic; it promotes self-exploration and gaining insight, along with productive behavior change. I take an active and engaged role with my clients by asking questions and offering ideas. I approach therapy as a collaborative process with the intention of reducing suffering, increasing self-understanding, and cultivating deeper and more compassionate relationships. I specialize in addressing chronic trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, loss, and relationship difficulties.
I have worked with young people for 20 years. I practice from a strength based, solution focused perspective. Okay, let me guess — life feels like a lot right now. You’re overwhelmed, drained, and stuck in patterns that just aren’t working anymore. Maybe you’re questioning your relationships, struggling at work, or wondering why you feel so disconnected. That glass of whiskey, wine, or weed isn’t helping like it used to. With nearly 20 years of experience, I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you process difficult emotions, release what’s weighing you down, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll create a path toward feeling more grounded and at peace. I help people work through anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and feeling emotionally drained. ART helps resolve distressing memories quickly, while IFS helps you understand and care for the parts of yourself that feel stuck or overwhelmed. My approach is compassionate and direct — focused on helping you feel more grounded and in control of your life. You don’t have to figure it out alone. While you might not feel it right now, you know you’re ready for change. I’d be honored to support you as you take the first step toward relief and clarity. I’m out-of-network with insurance, but we can explore ways to make it work. You’re worth the effort — reach out when you’re ready.
