Hi! My name is Melissa Mason (she/her) and I'm a seasoned therapist with an established history of working with adolescents & young adults. I possess clinical expertise in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma & other co-occurring disorders & I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) designed to reduce symptoms of trauma & PTSD. In addition to my clinical training I have been extensively trained in the use of yoga & mindfulness as a complimentary intervention. I recognize the strong connection between mind & body & work to help clients develop practices that enhance their overall wellness. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that an effective therapist builds good relationships, built on mutual respect & trust. This sets the tone for the work & allows the client to feel safe enough to be vulnerable. I work with clients to develop insight into the function of their presenting problem without shame or judgement, allowing them to find alternative ways to get their needs met. I believe in taking a multidimensional approach to treatment & work collaboratively with allied professionals to ensure each patient is getting the most comprehensive care possible. I whole heartedly believe recovery from whatever you are struggling with is possible & aim to impart that hope to my clients. My approach is warm, open & non-judgmental. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/melissa-mason-fishkill-ny/789530
I work from a trauma-informed perspective, and the foundation of my work is grounded in talk therapy, CBT, and ACT. I offer holistic and complementary interventions that will support your overall well-being. Our work can be supported by incorporating somatic practices, when appropriate for you. Our relationship is central to this work and I hold a safe, non-judgmental, and present-moment space for you. I encourage you to let your guard down, and speak from your most authentic self, and I will do the same, so we can truly connect. My main areas of focus are in personal growth and optimal well-being, spirituality in terms of your search to answer those deeper, more meaningful questions in life, and helping you heal from relational wounds such as childhood neglect, psychological abuse, attachment wounds, and relationship conflict. I believe that anxiety, depression, self-criticism, stress, and some physical symptoms are the result of negative relationship experiences. The stories from our past can color our present moment in ways that no longer serve us. In our work together, I will support you as you learn to build trust in yourself, and in others. I know there is a brighter future for you, one that nourishes your soul and where peace comes naturally. I want to help you find it!

In addition, at Vassar, she trains the next generation of psychotherapists as a senior supervisor to MSW students and Post-Doctoral Candidates. Thus, Natalia approaches her psychotherapeutic from a multicultural lens, helping you make sense of what brought you to this moment as a base to understand where you want to go and support you as you get there. Life is hard. For many of us, we often become overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, loneliness, uncertainty, fear, you name it. To make things worse, we experience trauma and discover that some of our deepest wounds come from our relationships. Of course, we want to protect ourselves from relationships, change, and the unknown. I get that. From working in schools, residential facility, and private practice setting, I've learned that there is also something inside each of us that yearns for healing, loving connection, and pure joy. So, what is getting in the way? Let's explore that together. I have a non-judgmental and compassionate approach when providing counseling for individuals. What that means is I relate to you as another imperfect human being who understands the impact of trauma, life transitions, stress, anxiety and several other factors that affect our day-to-day lives. I will offer you a space to freely explore your struggles and opportunities for healing. Let’s be real, we don’t know each other and it’s going to feel weird at first to share your story with me. I thank you for even considering. Sometimes the hardest step is the first one. I recognize and respect that. Whenever you’re ready, I am ready to join you. You don't have to figure it out on your own.
To be seen and known by others is an incredible feeling of connection but it means being authentic and vulnerable. Sadly, we live in a time with the illusion of connection while being more disconnected than ever. You may feel disconnected from others and even from yourself. Though you are a gift to this world, it is often blocked and unexpressed. This may leave you feeling alone and invisible. The truth is, you may be starving for deeper connection and that starvation looks like depression, anxiety, stress, and more. When you are living disconnected, you are abandoning yourself. Thankfully, you have a beautiful inner voice. I help you redefine your view of barriers (I call it protection), frustration around recurring struggles, failures, shame+fears through a lens of compassion, curiosity, and courage. My working style is non-judgmental, and I endeavor to bring curiosity, humor, empathy, patience, and respect to our relationship. I warmly invite you to reach out by phone or email through my website and schedule a free initial consultation to explore how we might work together to help you live a life of purpose and connection with self and others

We work best with students who feel deeply and think a lot. Many of the students we support are navigating major life changes, identity questions, relationship challenges, or the pressure to succeed while feeling like they are falling behind inside. If you have ever felt like you are carrying a lot beneath the surface or trying to make sense of big emotions and experiences, you are not alone. In therapy, we create a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and build the tools to move through life with more self-awareness and confidence.

You are the expert of your own experience and know best what supports you and what may no longer be serving you. In our work together, I will seek to highlight and validate how the social environment and systems have impacted your relationship with yourself and others, and to use the therapy space as an opportunity to dismantle hierarchies. To do this, I use an integrated, person-centered psychodynamic approach grounded in compassion. This includes using concepts from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatics, mindfulness and analysis. I identify as queer and will bring a queer lens to our work together by asking how you have constructed meaning of your world, by recognizing your strengths and by supporting you in developing new insight. I am a Licensed Master of Social Work, an artist and an educator. I have experience working with people in creative fields, navigating their gender and sexual identities, anxiety, depression, life and career transitions and higher education.
