Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Are you proud of your achievements but still feel there is a disconnect between how you want to live your life and how things are shaping up for you now, almost like you are watching a movie or living someone else’s life? It can be hard to even start a conversation about how to alleviate the way you’re feeling, when you are unsure about how the disconnection occurred and what exactly the disconnect is. I’m here to help you figure that out. I am passionate about empowering clients to figure out their own unique truth, joy, and fulfillment in life. Therapy can be the space for you to do exactly that. Sometimes the anxiety or depression we face is a symptom of a disconnection from our deeper selves, so a large focus of my work with clients is to empower them to find their voice, their truth, and to deepen their sense of congruence. I was drawn to therapy from my prior career having seen firsthand the enormous value therapy can bring us in improving both the quality and enjoyment of our lives. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative so that you can explore your experiences in a safe and culturally sensitive environment. Every client’s needs are completely unique, and no one is defined by their symptoms or challenges, so I adapt my approach based on your goals and objectives. I believe that honesty and directness are essential skills for therapists so that our clients can recognize patterns that don’t serve them well. I will share the truth of what I’m seeing with kindness and respect. Sometimes this means exploring uncomfortable experiences or feelings, and I will be your partner as you come to a deeper understanding of these experiences, and free yourself of their hold on you. I invite you to start by imagining what the best outcome could look like for you, and we will go from there.

Hello! I'm Kat, and I'm here to be your go-to cheerleader and confidante. Welcome to a space where you can breathe a little easier and find the support you need to navigate the twists and turns of college life. My journey into counseling? I started with a passion for music, earning a double B.A. in Music Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College. Those years taught me so much about creativity and the power of education to inspire and uplift. But my path took a turn when I felt called to explore counseling as a way to help others in a deeper capacity. I pursued an MA in Counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. It's there that I discovered my passion for holistic well-being and specialized in Brainspotting—an incredible modality to bust through performance/creative blocks and tackle the harder stuff like trauma. In our sessions, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where you can truly be yourself. I firmly believe in your ability to overcome challenges and shape the life you desire. Therapy doesn't have to be all serious and introspective. We'll sprinkle in some humor, passion, and empathy along the way. So, if you're ready to level up and tackle whatever life throws your way, I'm here for it. Shoot me a message and let's kickstart this journey together.

About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E. Frankl One of the greatest gifts we can grant ourselves is the gift of inner peace. You may want something different from your life, but you’re not sure what it is or how to go about getting it. You could have questions about relationships, career, or identity. Or perhaps you have been finding yourself overtaken by strong emotions at unexpected times. You need a space to talk, think, feel, and explore your world - both the parts that are acknowledged and also the parts that feel mysterious or shrouded. I see psychotherapy as a process of discovery. Through this process, you will have the opportunity to learn about yourself, including the parts of you that are hard to reach or difficult to know. I believe that a person cannot be fully defined in terms of a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. We are complex beings with unique temperaments and lived experiences, and we exist in a world of complex and sometimes oppressive systems. I see you first and foremost as an individual and acknowledge the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out therapy. I practice psychodynamic therapy through an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming lens. This work can allow you to have greater self-knowledge; to grow, and to consider and perhaps to make different decisions in your life. My approach is to bring curiosity, empathy, and insight to your current situation and to go from there.

By the time people reach out to me, they often feel overwhelmed, stuck, and unable to move forward. Do you struggle with anxiety and fear, constantly on edge, and unable to relax? Do you feel isolated and alone in your experience? Are your relationships suffering, leaving you feeling guilty and ashamed, unsure of how to cope? Are you experiencing uncontrollable nightmares and flashbacks? Many people facing these symptoms of trauma feel hopeless, saying, "I feel like I'm losing myself and need help finding my way back. I'm afraid to talk about it, but I know I need to." Therapy with me begins exactly where you are. I will be your guide, offering support and virtually holding your hand throughout your healing journey. Together, we will: Improve your understanding of trauma and its impact on your thoughts and feelings. Reduce avoidance behaviors and difficulties in experiencing positive emotions. Alleviate distress related to traumatic memories. Decrease feelings of anxiety, anger, guilt, and shame. Enhance your day-to-day living, and improve your relationship with yourself and others. By the end of therapy with me, you'll find relief from past pain, feel calmer and happier, and see improvements in your daily life and relationships. Feeling safe in a therapeutic setting is paramount. As survivors, it’s natural to want to get to know the specialist you’re working with before sharing difficult feelings and your story. I invite you to book a consultation to see if we are the right fit. Let’s embark on this journey together towards healing and transformation.
