I received my M.S. In Counseling from Villanova University and pursued doctoral studies at Immaculata University. In 1994 I became a licensed psychologist and opened my own private practice in Wayne, PA. I have been an adjunct professor at Chestnut Hill College in their graduate psychology department. I completed advanced studies in Jungian psychology at the C. G. Jung Institute in Philadelphia. In 1997 I became a certified Imago Relationship therapist where my goal was to assist couples in having more conscious, loving and intimate relationships. Central to my work is a powerful self-discovery tool … the Enneagram in which I received training in 2001. I use it extensively with clients as well as outside groups where I give presentations and teach classes on the Enneagram including volunteer teaching of the Enneagram at Montgomery County Correctional Facility. In 2014 I received my certification in coaching through the Coaches Training Institute. I since have developed a coaching practice to complement the work I do in the therapeutic and counseling areas. In addition, I also give presentations and talks for married couples, parent associations, support groups, and health and wellness audiences.

Anxiety is our least-welcome companion. It holds us back when we try to take a step forward. It stands in the way when we try to connect with others. It convinces us that the world is scary and the safest place is our home. Anxiety wears many masks, but the best defense is learning how to identify it when it pops into our lives and combat it with a variety of techniques you will learn in therapy. Together we can chip away at what holds you back in your life and build strong coping skills that will prepare you for a successful life ahead. Right now I'm offering both in-person and Tele-therapy appointments. Check out my website SeanDCleary.com for more information or if you'd like to get in touch. I look forward to meeting you.

My areas of expertise are : anxiety, life transitions, relational issues, and working through childhood emotional neglect in adulthood. Deciding to start therapy can be intimidating. That is your fear making decisions. Once you recognize you are stronger than your fears, a lot of great work can begin!

For over 25 years I have worked as a social worker, life coach and therapist with children, adolescents and adults. Since I was a child I knew that I wanted to be a counselor helping others in their time of need. At some point in life's journey you may experience a time where you feel you may benefit from some extra support and guidance, let me help you on the road to hope and healing. I believe in a mutual therapeutic relationship working together as a team towards the client's goals. Starting therapy and sharing issues that have become challenging is a hard and yet courageous step in your healing process. As a therapist I am honored to be able to share in this journey and hold the emotions that come with this. I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist, taking into consideration the individuals uniqueness and needs before implementing techniques and strategies. I use an honest and direct approach in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. With the help of different modalities CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused and EMDR I can help you find a path toward inner peace and joy.

College can be a time of both high demand and high reward. It's a time where we find independence, our passions, new friendships, and more... all while being challenged in a way we haven't been before. This is a transition that warrants a support system to help us through. Whether it be daily life stress, deeper traumas you have endured, or anything in between, my role in this support system is to be here as a resource for you in your therapeutic journey. I look forward to working together to shed light on your strengths, increase self-understanding, and empower you through any hardships. Let's connect!

As a certified professional in treating eating disorders (EDTC), I have a passion for working with clients with Eating Disorders and their families to strive for health, happiness, and recovery. I look forward to being with you on your journey to finding meaningful fulfillment and peace in this rollercoaster of life!
The Understory Group
The Understory Group was founded around one guiding principle: We are at our best when we grow together. As therapists, we're not interested in seeing our clients as a list of symptoms, problem behaviors, or diagnoses--we're interested in working with individuals, families, and resilient survivors who have trusted us with their stories. We approach our work through an anti-oppressive lens with a particular focus on providing quality care to the LGBTQ+ community. A vibrant and thriving ecosystem can only exist when it creates space for diversity, adaptation, and community. Let's create a beautiful understory.

Using a combination of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and relational techniques and theories I am able to tailor treatment to your specific needs. Do you feel held back by fear and anxiety? Do the "what ifs" or the memories of how things went wrong haunt you to the point of inaction? If so, I can help; I work with young adults to help them overcome their anxiety and past trauma to get unstuck and live their lives to the fullest. I try to balance meeting you where you are, and teaching you skills that will change behavior patterns that are no longer working for you. Therapy should be more than just "venting;" I believe it should be an active process of learning and change. If you want a therapy experience that is structured and goal-oriented, we may be a good fit. I enjoy and welcome working with students of all backgrounds, including the LGTBQIAA community. I would be happy to speak with you to see if we can become partners in your recovery journey!

Welcome to Empirical Embrace Counseling! I became a therapist because I understand what it feels like to be in the throes of mental illness while also navigating the ups and downs of life - and how isolating that can be. I want all of my clients to feel safe when they are in the therapy room with me. I want them to know that they have me in their corner to support, guide, and advocate for them. My clients inspire me every. single. day. and I am truly passionate about my work. I am extensively trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments for OCD, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma. Some of these treatment modalities include Exposure/Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Enhanced for ED's, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, and general Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety and depression. The most important thing to me in the therapy room is my relationship with my client. I approach this with compassion and empathy and most importantly, meeting my clients where they are. Holding the space for my clients to experience life's ups and downs is one of my greatest strengths.
