At this moment, you face one of the most important choices of your life: Is this the moment you closed your browser and settled for what you have? Or is this the moment you reached out for therapy and reclaimed your life? My approach to therapy focuses on developing a positive vision for your life. You can’t just wish for the suffering to end. You need to be bolder. What becomes possible when the suffering ends - what will it mean for you to live a good life? Many struggle with this question. They think they know what they want, but in reality they want what someone else wanted for them. That is why my approach focuses on understanding your true self - your style of perceiving your environment, interacting with the world, and making decisions. As we discover your true self, we will also work on recognizing the existential choices you face as part of the change process and identifying how you can make those choices in alignment with your core values. You have one precious, beautiful, wild life. With every passing moment, that life is getting shorter. You’ve lost too much time to suffering already. If you are ready to change, reach out to me. I am ready to walk with you every step of the way.

Hi I’m James (they/them). I am currently accepting sliding-scale clients at $10-$100 depending on what you can afford. I am doing in-person work, or virtual (in PA). I am available for short-term therapy (through April), with a focus on somatic experiencing: a type of therapy can support you to build capacity to show up in the world and in your body the way you want to. Somatic experiencing (SE) explores ways our bodies hold stress, overwhelm, and trauma patterns. By bringing awareness to these patterns and learning new tools, you can shift the patterns held in your body that are no longer serving you. Somatic experiencing is geared towards resolving trauma held in the body. It can be used to address specific events/trauma, ongoing stressors, or to build resilience in a more general way. If you aren’t interested in somatic therapy and would prefer someone to talk and process with, I’m also down for that. I draw upon my background in harm reduction, clinical herbalism, and personal experiences with physical and mental health struggles. My practice focuses on supporting queer and trans communities. I’m currently working towards a masters degree in social work from Smith College.

I offer individual therapy on issues including anxiety, depression, identity exploration, self-esteem, relationships, and life transitions. I am also proficient in Spanish. My practice provides a non-judgmental, compassionate environment where you will be not just listened to, but truly heard. I approach therapy through feminist, strength-based, client-centered, and relational frameworks to empower you on your path forward. At its core, this means that nothing happens in a vacuum, our lives are impacted by our history, environments, systems of oppression, relationships, and our own identities. My goal is to create a collaborative space where you can connect more fully with yourself and gain the insight and tools to overcome challenges and live your most authentic, fulfilling life.

Reach out if you have experienced a loss or difficult transition if you are struggling to set boundaries or express your needs, if you are struggling with difficult emotions or if you just aren’t feeling like yourself. It is our goal to support you in exploring your experiences, releasing things that you may have been carrying, setting goals you want to achieve, and identifying patterns and beliefs that are creating barriers. Our role as therapists is to provide a safe, judgment-free, and confidential space for you to process vulnerable thoughts and emotions. Our approach is person-centered and focuses on building a supportive relationship while using cognitive behavioral theory as a framework. We specialize in trauma therapy and work with individuals experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. Some of the modalities used include EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. Let us help you to know and be present with yourself.

Do you feel isolated, like you just can’t really seem to connect with others in a meaningful way? Is life starting to become boringly repetitive with no end in sight? Are you drinking or using other drugs more than you are comfortable and worry you might have a problem? Maybe you chronically feel depressed, anxious, or that your mood is just all over the place for no obvious reason? Are you experiencing distressing memories, thoughts, and strong feelings without having a sense of control over them? I can help you by developing healthy self-resourcing tools to manage your thoughts, feelings, and distress experiences. I work with individuals by offering a healthy, nonjudgmental, encouraging, and collaborative relationship that promote your strengths through a process of discovery, acceptance, growth, and becoming. I believe every person has an inherent potential for growth. I work diligently with you as a collaborator to help you harness this potential through support, encouragement, and, at times, even challenging you. I work with adults of all ages, gender identities, races, sexual orientations and economic/ethnic backgrounds to treat a wide range of problems like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic anger management issues, addiction, PTSD, and a variety of other behavior conditions. I've dedicated my life to understanding and caring for the mind. Childhood curiosity drew me to study at Cornell University, which ranged from the philosophy of mind to the neurobiology of behavior. After studying neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, I attended medical school. Here, I fell in love with psychiatry because I was fascinated with patients' stories and their unique ways of enduring them. I sought my graduate medical education at the Western Psychiatric Hospital of UPMC, one of the nation's largest and most renowned university-affiliated psychiatric hospitals. I specialize in integrating evidence-based (e.g., medication) and patient-centered (e.g., hypnosis) therapies. My prescribing is evidence-based and enhanced by patient-centered problem-solving that utilizes your existing attributes while evoking natural learning and adaptation processes. I consider a person's symptoms in the context of understanding them as individuals, considering their development, personality, and life narrative.
