We live in a world full of things that can make life feel like a challenge. Stress, anxiety, adverse experiences, and complicated relationships can make it difficult to feel motivated on the day-to-day. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and that the role of the therapist is to help clients feel safe and supported so that together we can address whatever a client may bring into session. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR and hypnotherapy, to address trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, relational concerns, exploration of gender and sexuality, and more. I am licensed to practice in both Nevada and Colorado to see individuals, couples, and families ages 6 and up. If you are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or looking for someone to help you make sense of whatever you are struggling with, I am happy to assist! Hello. I am Dr. Rhoda Lipscomb and I am a certified sex therapist and coach who specializes in alternative means of sexual expression. I work with those who need help with issues of AB/DL, BDSM, kink, fetishes, open relationships (swinging, polyamory, designer) as well as issues of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transition, and stress reduction. I have 30 years experience in the field of mental health counseling and have been in private practice for 16 years. I provide all services virtually using video conferencing. While I provide psychotherapy to those within the state of CO, I also offer mental health and sexuality coaching for those in other states. Many college aged adults can benefit from working with someone who specializes in sexuality, however most sex therapists and coaches in private practice charge rates that are difficult for college students to afford. I have made my fees on Thriving Campus much lower than my usual rate so it can be more accessible for young adults in college who are struggling with sexual issues as well as anxiety, self-esteem and life transition.
I enjoy learning about clients from a very dynamic perspective - where they came from, how they are now, and who they wish to become. I look forward to working with you and watching you grow into the person you have always wanted to be. I am trained in both short term (6-10 sessions) and long term therapy, and encourage clients to make their own decision regarding what they need from therapy. I also do stand-alone evaluations for emotional support animal letters.
A need to always look put-together and strong can be destructive and exhausting. It seems like the harder you try, the harder it gets. The pressure to appear “all good” invalidates the emotions we all experience as human beings. Living in a culture of toxic positivity only reinforces the idea that negative thoughts and feelings are somehow inherently unhealthy. In therapy, outdated notions are challenged and you will not be invalidated for feeling…anything. Many of my clients have internalized beliefs about who they should and shouldn’t be- and most of these beliefs are false. Therapy is a non-judgmental space where you can truly express yourself without fear of being judged or shamed. Many of the clients I work with identify with being anxious, perfectionists who want better relationships. I also work with adults who know or think they may be on the autism spectrum. Overall, therapy can be great tool to get a better grip on life as well as for treating a specific diagnosis.. Whatever your background, your struggles, your ambitions, we will work together. Feeling better is within reach.
Hi there, I’m Gavyn. Originally from Illinois, I spent my formative years in the Madison, Wisconsin area. My academic journey led me to the University of Milwaukee, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During high school and throughout my undergraduate years, I immersed myself in various treatment environments, from nursing homes to residential treatment facilities, and outpatient mental health clinics. My commitment to serve my community remained strong as I persisted in finding a setting that would fuel my passion for aiding others in their treatment journeys. Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I ventured to Chicago to delve into the world of wedding photography, a pursuit that fed my artistic soul but left me yearning for deeper human connections. This longing eventually led me and my husband to Colorado, where I embarked on my Master’s in Social Work, specializing in Animal Assisted Therapy. Here, I discovered a profound passion for integrating the healing potential of the human-animal bond into my therapeutic practice. My professional journey has been diverse, encompassing work with various populations, including adolescents diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and those navigating disordered eating challenges. Through these experiences, I've refined my ability to address a wide spectrum of mental health concerns. Central to my approach is a belief in the power of a strengths-based perspective, recognizing and nurturing the innate resilience and resources within each individual. I strive to cultivate a safe and supportive environment where clients can freely explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is fundamental to my practice, empowering clients to feel understood and empowered on their path to healing. When I am not in the office, you'll often find me cuddling my four fluffy animals—two cats and two dogs—or plotting my next exciting adventure.
Finding ourselves stuck in problems that we can't seem to figure out isn't uncommon and asking for help isn't easy, but it is a brave first step. My hope is that once I have the opportunity to get to know you and your unique experiences, I can help you to develop the skills to manage life's challenges in a way that you can be proud of. I have worked with children, families and adults and tailor my practice to the individuals I serve. I strive to create a space that is safe, non-judgemental and considers the complexity of your life. My past work has been with individuals of all ages who have experienced complex trauma and the resulting depression, anxiety, anger, fear, shame and grief. I strive to create a safe and anti-oppressive practice that respects, validates and affirms individual racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, gender and sexual identities. I believe that people are meant to live in relationship, but that often we get stuck in negative cycles of relating to ourselves, others and the world that keep us from growth and joy. In my own life, I have worked and continue to work to break down these things for myself, and I am honored to join others in their work to do the same. :)
