Hello; My name is Shane Blasko. I am a Licensed Psychologist. The style of therapy that I utilize is compassion-based interpersonal therapy, which is based on the idea that the relationship between a person and their therapist is extremely important. I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy; it is an important relationship through which we can heal from past traumas, work through life transitions, learn to communicate more effectively, and learn to manage disruptive symptoms through learning more effective ways of coping, and understanding why we cope the way we do. I believe that it is important for therapists to try to understand the different contexts that each client is coming from; this means that I am dedicated to learning more about how each client experiences the world, and makes sense of it. I believe that each individual is unique, and that part of the job of the therapist is to try to understand how the client makes meaning of their experiences, and to assist the client with their goals.
Amelia Thomas is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC013793) and EMDR Certified Therapist specializing in working with adults on trauma recovery, anxiety, self-esteem, identity development, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Amelia is inspired by helping individuals recognize their worthiness through the healing of past wounds and the strengthening of their authentic voices. Amelia works with individuals who have reached the point in their counseling journey that they are ready to begin the brave work of addressing past hurts and traumas that are keeping them “stuck” in unhealthy patterns. Amelia also enjoys working with young adults as they navigate the challenges that come along with burgeoning independence, changing relationships, and major life transitions. Amelia offers EMDR Therapy in her work with clients seeking recovery from trauma. EMDR Therapy has been shown to be effective in treating a number of presenting concerns, including but not limited to trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/self-worth, grief/loss, sleep issues, chronic pain, and more. Amelia has worked in many settings, including a non-profit serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence, an emergency housing shelter, and a university counseling center. Her professional and personal background has led her to develop a strong desire to assist individuals in healing from the profound pain that traumatic experiences can leave behind. In helping survivors free themselves from old, ineffective patterns, Amelia seeks to support clients in cultivating resilience, connection, and meaning in their lives. Amelia obtained a B.S. in Sociology from Appalachian State University and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University. College is a time of immense growth, but it can also feel like you're expected to have everything figured out. The pressure to choose the right major, land the right internship, and map out your entire future can feel suffocating. I know this firsthand - I changed careers a few times before finding my path in counseling. I understand what it's like to sit with the uncertainty of wondering whether you're on the right track and feeling like you're falling behind while everyone else seems to have it together. Whether you're adjusting to a new campus, navigating the independence of college life, or struggling with anxiety and depression, I provide a space to unpack those pressures and reconnect with what actually matters to you. I also enjoy working with student-athletes. Balancing the demands of academics and athletics comes with a unique set of pressures. When so much of your identity is tied to performance, it can be difficult to know who you are outside of your sport. There are a lot of challenges involved such as adjusting to a new team environment, managing the weight of expectations from coaches and peers, or facing burnout and the emotional toll of competition. Together, we can work to build resilience that extends beyond the field or court and help you develop a stronger sense of self that isn't solely defined by your achievements. In therapy, I offer a warm, collaborative approach where healing happens through genuine connection. I believe people suffer most when they are living out of alignment with their own values and desires rather than the expectations placed on them by society, family, coaches, or culture. Part of our work together is identifying those messages and exploring which ones are truly yours.

In sessions, it is my goal to collaborate with my client to develop an understanding of their feelings, thoughts, and actions within the context of their past and who they are. I work to cultivate a safe space, staying curious with my clients and holding space for life's challenges. You have everything you need to heal and grow. It is my privilege to walk alongside you and provide support in your healing journey.
I’ve always been an “old soul” and felt drawn to finding deeper meaning in a chaotic world. I’m deeply interested in others’ stories and understanding how we grow, heal, and thrive — so I suppose it wasn’t a big surprise that I found my way to the field of counseling. I’ve often found myself in awe at how the human spirit can weather even the greatest of storms. I primarily work with individuals and couples who are experiencing anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, loss, and relationship issues, as well as career and professional issues. Additionally, I provide performance consulting for athletes and executives. I received my Master’s degree from Richmont Graduate University in 2009 and went on to complete my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Auburn University. I am currently pursuing certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant. I practice from an eclectic orientation integrating psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT!), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Gottman method and Emotion Focused Therapy depending on the client’s needs. I am trauma informed in my approach to treatment. It is important to note that I have specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention as well as the Gottman Method. I was a professor in graduate counseling programs for over 10 years which has enabled me to develop expertise in several areas across the curriculum for counselors. I also draw from years of management experience in corporate and family businesses. When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my family or pursuing my love of beautiful things through travel, flower arranging, or hiking. I am also an avid but marginal tennis player.

I work with young adults who are using alcohol and other substances to cope. Many of my clients are able to reduce their use through weekly counseling with me in combination with group therapy. For clients who need a higher level of care, I can help them identify the appropriate outpatient detox, residential detox, residential treatment or day program. I see clients in person on Roswell Road in Buckhead/Sandy Springs and online throughout Georgia. I also work with young adults struggling with mood disorders or who feel stuck and who want to launch richer, more purposeful lives. Many of my clients are dealing with problems related to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, or the difficult transition to adulthood. My clients learn skills to cope with big emotions in the moment, while also working to understand their core values, so that they can create a concrete action plan that aligns with who they really are. Prior to becoming a counselor, I taught creative writing. I use narrative therapy and creative writing prompts in my practice for clients who are interested. I have experience working with clients who are struggling with alcohol abuse and addiction. I work with clients curious about reducing their alcohol consumption and with newly sober clients who want support in their recovery. Christian worldview informs my practice, as I walk beside my clients in their understanding of who they are and who they want to become.

A licensed psychologist, I received both my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and my M.S. in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. When faced with difficult situations, we often feel discouraged. I believe that a safe, supportive environment is key to growth, and I offer plenty of encouragement. I help clients gain perspective through empathic exploration. We’re all doing the best we can in life, but sometimes we get in our own way. As much as I’m comfortable with deep emotions, I also believe in the importance of bringing laughter and humor into the room!
