Here’s a quick bit of information about my education, and areas of focus. I graduated from University of Louisville with Masters in Couple’s and Family Therapy, as well as Social Work. The majority of my training is in family systems therapy. In short, that means I believe all things function as a system and are interconnected. My approach to therapy is person centered, informal, and conversational. I believe it’s important to look at the whole picture, instead of solely placing the weight of the problem on one person. I also enjoy looking at Mind- Body- Spirit connection, which in my opinion tends to promote overall well-being. My focuses areas are: daily stressors, Depression, Anxiety, Life Adjustments, Relational concerns, etc. Some of the techniques I pull from frequently are: CBT,DBT, Distress Dis-tolerance( Mindfulness), IFS, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused, and motivational interviewing. Therapy is not a one size fit all. It’s important that the time you spend in session is designed for you. My work with you is tailored to you. My goal in session is to collaborate with you on your desired plan. I see myself as an assistant/ collaborator to helping you turn over the pieces in your life that need your attention. Therapy is the space and time where you are given the opportunity to be who you are. It is the space for you to be accepted and validate in a safe environment.
I believe that one of the most healing aspects of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client which is one intended to be that of a traveling companion rather than an "expert"-"advice receiver" relationship. This is why I tend to pay special attention to the formation of that relationship in order to help others explore what matters to them and engage in those values in the face of mental health barriers. I have been able to work with individuals that find themselves struggling with lasting impacts of trauma, depression, anxiety, interpersonal concerns, and life transitions.
We are a group of therapists who specialize in anxiety, teens, and sensitive people. EMDR trained, IFS, body-centered somatic psychotherapy. We specialize in teens, young adults and adults. We also have group therapy with an art focus.
I am a pre-licensed therapist working toward licensure. I've spent over 500 hours with clients in my graduate program and am currently growing my own caseload at Maitri Counseling Collective. My work is anchored in compassion and curiosity and my goal is to support my clients as they get to know themselves better. I am experienced in working with family dynamics, ADHD, anxiety, depression, body image, and faith deconstruction.
Irvington Counseling Collective is a (501c3) nonprofit, income-based sliding-scale therapy practice located in Indianapolis, IN. We are a collective of therapists representative of those we serve. We are dedicated to making mental health support available to those who seek it through low barrier counseling services and mutual aids funds management. As a practice, we are dedicated to supporting members of our community in living rich, full, and meaningful lives, guided by what they value most and irregardless of socioeconomic background. We strive to practice cultural humility in our work, and to create a safe space that warmly supports those who are LGBTQI+, BIPOC and sexually diverse expressions of love. We work as a collective of therapists dedicated to the mission of our organization and support of one another, our clients and our community.
As a former high school teacher, I have helped adolescents as they transition into adulthood. Now as a therapist, I enjoy working with individuals and couples through transitions of all kinds. I can help navigate the big life changes adolescents face, issues within family dynamics (family and marital issues), and issues that come with career changes and aging. I am an excellent resource for those suffering with anxiety, depression and BPD, especially those newly diagnosed with BPD. I am here to listen non-judgmentally and cheerlead you in your progress and growth while providing you skills and tools to get there. I use a skill-based approach to help clients learn and grow in their emotional wellness. I also incorporate a lot of mindfulness as clients learn to name and express their emotions. Finally, I love exploring spirituality (regardless of belief system) and incorporating this into treatment. Above all, I am here to listen. Sometimes we simply need someone who is in our corner and I hope to be that for you. I am queer-affirming and available to new clients, both in-person and virtually. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to get scheduled.
