River City Psychological Services
River City Psychological Services is a group of psychologists, professional counselors, and social workers striving to create a safe environment where people of all ages can grow and heal. We provide mental health therapy and counseling to people who experience problems related to anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship stressors, and reactions to grief. Many of our clinicians have had focused training related to providing psychotherapy services to people who struggle with addiction, as well as people who have been through traumas, including childhood abuse. We have clinicians who focus on working in the areas of life transitions, spirituality, relationships, and multicultural issues. We offer ADHD psychological testing and evaluation, as well as the thorough documentation many schools, universities, and physicians require for accommodations. We offer letter writing for support and advocacy for the transgender community for coordination of care.
Tree of Life Counseling Services
You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges on your own. There are times when the weight of stress, anxiety, grief, self-doubt, or major life changes can feel overwhelming, and reaching out for support can be difficult. If you’ve been carrying more than you can manage by yourself, know that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but an investment in you and your future.
Hillary Morgan
Hillary believes that the foundation of counseling is a therapeutic relationship that offers a safe and comfortable environment. Sharing your story while experiencing acceptance helps to drive the therapeutic process and lay the foundation for real healing and growth. She believes counseling can be a place to explore your patterns, come to understand factors that contributed to your development, and find a balance between accepting yourself and changing patterns that are no longer serving you. Through this exploration and finding the right therapeutic tools, Hillary believes that all people have the ability to understand themselves better, find acceptance, and learn to thrive in daily life. Hillary works for Mindful Counseling GR at the Standale location. She is an alum of both Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University. Hillary works with adolescents and adults. She specializes in working with individuals with anxiety, trauma, depression, and life transition concerns. Hillary also has experience with family of origin work and exploring relational patterns within the family unit. Hillary will work with you to identify strengths within yourself, increase self-awareness, and find the right tools for managing life symptoms and stressors before they arise.
Courtney Albin Upchurch
Are you trying to reach your goals, but feel like you're running in circles? I can help with improving your happiness, addressing a problem-area in your life, or whatever else you want to focus on. One-size-fits-all counseling doesn't work, so I individualize each client's experience based on what works best for them. I believe in a mind-body-spirit approach where we have to take care of all three to feel truly fulfilled, which is why I also offer Christian counseling. I have a Master of Arts in counseling (MAC). In addition, I'm a fully licensed practicing counselor (LPC), a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). I've also been trained directly through the Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Institute. Warmth and insight are the foundation of our sessions, especially as I understand we all need someone to be ourselves with. Life can be challenging at times, but we don't have to go through it alone. I became a counselor because of my passion for helping others, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or for more information!

I am currently accepting clients on a short-term basis for crisis counseling. Sliding scale and pro bono services available. My availability is flexible and I offer in person (East Lansing) and Telehealth. I work to help people navigate their complex worlds in order to live a healthier, happier life. I believe that all components of one's life are interrelated. Stress, crisis, life changes and uncertainty happen to everyone, often without warning. When crisis or chaos strike, it is comforting to have someone listen in a safe, open, non-judgmental space in which you can uncover the inner strengths and skills you already possess. I work with clients to create this environment, through which genuine healing, change, and self-empowerment can occur.

I work with adolescents and adults whose lives have been impacted by trauma, grief and loss, or chronic stress and who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. They may struggle with anxiety, trauma responses, depression, relationship patterns, ADHD, chronic pain, or feeling unsafe in their bodies or the world. They want a supportive space to process experiences at their own pace, build coping skills, and move toward greater safety, presence, and self-trust. I am also working toward being Internal Family Systems (IFS or "parts work") level 1 trained. It would be an honor to support you.

Erin Parcell

During the course of our strenuous daily lives, it's often difficult to find time to devote to investing in yourself. You will guide your experience from beginning to end. Erin brings a diverse background of experience spanning 19 years of supporting clients aging from young childhood through mid-adulthood. Erin supports people with childhood concerns such as ADHD, bullying, family, and trauma through concerns into adulthood such as stress management, depression/anxiety, life changes, grief, relationships, and trauma/PTSD. Fellow Therapy
Fellow believes that by mobilizing our shared human experiences we can undo feelings of aloneness that lay at the core of our distress. When we do this, we find greater connection with ourselves and others.
Sarah LaMadline
You may feel like you should have everything figured out by now. The truth is, most people don’t. College can bring a lot of pressure, academically, socially, and personally. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, lonely, or navigating relationship challenges, or questioning your direction about what comes next. Many students I work with come to therapy because something in their life doesn’t feel quite right. Sometimes that means exploring the stress happening right now, and other times it means getting curious about past experiences or childhood dynamics that may still be shaping patterns in relationships, self-confidence, or how you handle difficult emotions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in helping you better understand yourself while also building practical tools to manage stress and feel steadier. Therapy with me doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly clinical; humor, swearing, and showing up as your real self are all welcome here. My office is located by a GVSU bus stop (Ferndale/Meijer stop) and is about a 10-minute walk. You don’t have to sort everything out on your own. Reach out if you're ready to start getting the support you need!

As we journey through life, even in our most painful moments it can still feel like a huge risk to seek help from a new place. That is why I strive to provide a therapy experience for my clients that honors that risk. An experience where you are able to show up as your authentic self and work towards personal growth alongside someone who is attuned to your thoughts, feelings, and needs. Across my time, I have worked primarily with college students as well as a wide variety of adults in age and background often struggling with anxiety, depression, stress management, emotion regulation, identity development, family of origin concerns, relationship concerns, life transitions and more. My approach to therapy hinges on creating a strong therapeutic relationship that can serve as a safe haven for my clients. To me this means a relationship where you can feel seen and accepted as you are and where, with the support of another, you can process and manage experiences and emotions that may have felt too confusing, overwhelming, or frightening to do alone. From this base of safety, we’ll venture out to understand together the emotional, relational, systemic, and other factors that have contributed to the roots of your current concerns and the cycles and stuck places you may be caught in. My hope is to not only help you build the skills to manage your present distress and reach your goals, but to also help you move towards a life of greater emotional balance, self-compassion, and secure connections with others. Wherever you are at in your life journey, I consider it a real gift to meet you there and be a source of support in this time!
