Feeling lost, overwhelmed, and stuck in repetitive patterns can happen to anyone. Sometimes having a space to name the emotions and how you feel can start the process of healing and change. I will work with you at your pace to help build insight and awareness of your experiences and healing. I believe you have the ability to take control of your life and become more connected to yourself and others. My goal as a therapist is to help you gain the tools to uncover your full potential and develop a deep understanding of yourself to foster your own personal growth and healing. I am a licensed professional counselor based in Michigan, specializing in virtual therapy for young adults. With a focus on individual counseling, I am dedicated to helping my clients navigate through various challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and eating disorders. In my therapeutic approach, I utilize the Internal Family Systems modality, which is an approach to psychotherapy that is empowering, non-pathologizing, and transformative. I am currently working towards my level 1 IFS certification. Through a collaborative and empathetic environment, I strive to empower individuals to uncover their inner strengths and develop healthier coping mechanisms. I offer a safe, empathetic, and judgement-free environment to help you grow, become empowered, and begin healing within your life. I am looking forward to working together to create the change you have been looking for.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've been carrying the weight of anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, identity questions, or overwhelming emotions for a long time. You don't have to navigate those challenges alone. I work with young adults who are ready to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, and create lasting change. Whether you're navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, personality concerns, life transitions, or questions surrounding identity, therapy can provide both practical tools and a space to process what you've been through. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each person. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while recognizing that every person's experiences and goals are unique.

My name is Carolyn Roath. I am a Biblically informed Christian therapist, Master of Clinical Social Work, and owner of my own private telehealth practice. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University. My heart for those grieving relational loss and trauma has led me to this work. As a follower of Christ, I seek to create a safe and nurturing environment where the client knows they are free from judgment. It is paramount for me that I hold the vulnerable, tender, and painful parts of my client’s being with dignity and respect. Being trusted by a client is an honor I take very seriously. In my work I strive to empower my clients to be self-led, while gently guiding them with questions to prompt self-reflection. I resonate strongly with attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, and Interpersonal Neurobiology utilizing a strength-based approach. I perceive my role as continually validating clients while helping them process, synthesize, and analyze information through active listening.

I work best with students who feel like they are carrying the weight of the world—whether that comes from a history of abuse, difficult experiences with religion, or just the overwhelming pressure to keep it all together. You might feel like you have to be "on" all the time for your classes or friends, but inside, you are struggling to find solid ground. I provide a "Safe Harbor" where you can drop the act and be real. As a former firefighter, I am not afraid of the heavy stuff; I offer a judgment-free space to process trauma, anxiety, or deep questions about your faith and identity. You don't have to navigate this alone. As a Counselor in Training, I offer flexible, affordable options because I believe a tight student budget shouldn't stop you from finding peace. Let's work together to help you stop just surviving school and start actually living your life.

My path started by working in alternative high schools, and then as a career counselor in management and business development roles for a few universities and military populations. I have over 18 years of experience working in education, career development, and mental health. My experience growing up in Flint, Michigan, and being the first in my family to attend college, shaped how I view and overcome challenges. I specialize in support for working professionals, especially teachers, nurses, and students with anxiety or depression who are struggling in their careers, education, or relationships. Many feel stuck, burnt out, angry, and overwhelmed. Chronic stress makes it hard for them to connect with their instructors, bosses, and peers. Time management is an issue and constantly trying to keep up. Some may prefer to be alone, even though it leads to ruminating over traumatic work experiences and substance use. My clients have demanding jobs and/or class schedules, and are highly trained and accustomed to solving problems. However, no one is immune to the long-term effects of stress and trauma. I have over 18 years working in counseling, higher education, and career development. My communication style is warm, yet solution-focused, often encouraging you to think from the end, build your resilience, and focus on the future. Some clients get what they need to make a positive change in 6-8 sessions. Others enjoy my long-term support to address trauma. First time trying talk therapy? Congrats on taking the first step. I value confidentiality and understand the college campus and workplace cultures. You do not have to go through this alone. Let's get you out of survival mode and start to thrive. Reach out to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation today. I look forward to talking with you.

I practice from an insight oriented, relational, and multicultural approach tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with. My priority as a therapist is to create a warm, collaborative, non-judgmental space where you can work through your concerns and make the changes in your life you desire. People seek therapy for a number of reasons, perhaps to alleviate symptoms or distress, improve self-esteem, or address relationship issues. In my experience, symptoms often “mark the spot” of a deeper themes you may be grappling with and I aim to assist you uncover what the root of your concerns may be. Often therapy helps increase self-awareness, develop deeper understanding of how past experiences may be influencing the present, and provides an opportunity to learn tools to address problematic behavior(s). Having spent the majority of my training and professional life working in university counseling centers, I am passionate about working with college and graduate students. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Pace University in New York City and my postdoctoral fellowship at University of Chicago Student Counseling Service where I gained experience working with life-transitions, relationship issues, eating disorders, and sexual trauma. Other areas of interest include identity development and intersectionality, family dynamics, anxiety, and stress management.

Hello! I am a trauma therapist for women navigating motherhood and life transitions. I specializes in supporting women navigating motherhood, grief and loss, neurodivergence, and life transitions. I work with adult women who may appear to be managing life well on the outside, but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck internally. Many of the clients I work with are processing trauma, adjusting to major life transitions, navigating ADHD or autism as adults, or finding their way through the emotional complexities of pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood. I am particularly passionate about supporting women who are learning to better understand their emotional and physical responses, reconnect with their sense of self, and develop new ways of relating to their experiences.
