Welcome to Shifa Therapy LLC, a space for healing. My practice centers the Global Majority in NJ, NY, and PA, especially BIPOC folks within the LGBTQIA+ community. I integrate different approaches like Somatic Experiencing, IFS, EMDR, and Liberation Psychology to help navigate the stress, adversity, and trauma of life. My goal as your therapist is for you to be seen and understood as you are. No code-switching necessary. Throughout our work, I will invite you with patience and compassion, going at your pace as you build new adaptations toward thriving. Think of this as a relational and experiential kind of process that goes beyond insight and coping skills. Feel free to email me with questions about getting started. If I have a waitlist, I'll still offer a consultation call to see if we'd be a good fit for the future. I look forward to meeting you!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist, providing support and guidance to LGBTQ+ folks who often don’t see themselves represented in the world around them or reflected in their search for the right-fit therapist. While I regularly help folks work through depression, anxiety, and trauma, we also freely discuss other topics that might not otherwise feel comfortable, including sex, faith, and the impact of diet culture. Nothing is off limits. I also regularly work with neurodivergent folks, especially around the emotional impact of ADHD, and exploring autistic identity. I am licensed in both New York and Wisconsin, and see clients throughout both states through video sessions.

I'm Zack, a clinical therapist specializing in evidence-based treatment for children, teens, and adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders: social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, specific phobias (fear of heights, flying, animals, etc.), body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs): hair pulling, skin picking, nail/lip/cheek biting, & attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I earned my master's degree in social work from Widener University and my bachelor's degree in psychology from Pennsylvania State University. Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with family, golfing, playing video games, and following my favorite sports teams. Over the past decade, I’ve worked within various healthcare systems, specializing in OCD, anxiety-related conditions, BFRBs, ADHD, and depression. I am certified in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) through The Beck Institute, a rigorous process involving many hours of training and consultation with clinical psychologists specializing in CBT. I am certified in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and have received extensive training and consultation through the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA). I am a member of the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF). I have also received specialized training in Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) Treatment, Habit Reversal Training (HRT), & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have held leadership roles including Director, Manager, and Supervisor of Behavioral Health across multiple healthcare systems. These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of workplace stress and burnout, making me especially attuned to the needs of professionals navigating high-demand environments. In addition to my private practice, I work as a Behavioral Health Clinician in the Emergency Room at Main Line Health System, providing psychiatric crisis assessments and support to individuals and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. I also teach CBT to physician residents within the Psychiatry Program, sharing evidence-based strategies to support mental health care in various settings.

College can intensify pressure to succeed, make the “right” choices, and hold it all together, often alongside anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, relationship issues, or concerns about food, body image, or control. I work with college students and young adults who appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves on the inside. Together, we slow things down, identify patterns that keep you stuck, and build insight and skills that support real, lasting change. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you as a whole person, not a set of symptoms. I hold the CEDS-C credential, the highest certification in eating disorder treatment, and support students whose anxiety or perfectionism shows up around food, body image, or self-worth. Therapy can be a space to pause, feel understood, and reconnect with what matters most, without having to pretend you’re fine or push through alone.

My history of working in school settings from pre-K through college has shaped my approach to therapy, which is rooted in the belief that counseling is a learning process. From the foundation of a strong client/counselor partnership, clients can build skills and gain understanding to foster better relationships with both themselves and others, while also developing a more intentional and effective process for responding to stressors and challenges. Together, we can collaborate to clarify your goals for counseling and develop an individualized plan that balances support, insight, and skill building. Life transitions are my specialty and college is full of them! The pressures that students face can include feeling overwhelmed by college responsibilities, parent expectations, time management, career confusion, as well as "adulting" in general. Even social life can be a stressor. Some of my clients have found that past experiences or traumas have become obstacles to reaching their goals. It took many years of college to get where I am at, so I get that the struggle is real! I am available via teletherapy (video or phone), in office sessions, and offer text/email support as needed. I am here for you throughout the year - not just when school is in session. Call me today for a free consultation!
