Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Have you ever felt isolated or like no one truly understands you? If so, know that you’re not alone in these experiences, and I’m here to listen and support you. My name is Elvis, a second-year master’s degree student in the Social Work program at Montclair State University. I also received a BA in Psychology, with a double minor in Child Advocacy & Policy, and Social Work. I identify as a heterosexual, hispanic male. In our sessions, we’ll work together to develop customized strategies that support your emotional well-being, help you manage any psychological challenges, and enhance your daily life. We’ll focus on creating practical tools tailored to your needs, such as self-care routines, mindfulness practices, and grounding techniques, to help you navigate new stressors and experiences. We may also explore past or present traumas, childhood experiences, or current situations that are affecting your day-to-day life, aiming to provide you with a comprehensive and personalized approach to healing and growth. My theraputic approach is grounded in the psychodynamic, CBT, and DBT theories. I strive to create a comfortable environment where you can express yourself openly. Together, we’ll work on identifying what’s going on in your life and develop practical strategies to help you manage and overcome obstacles. My goal is to make our sessions straightforward and relatable, without any confusing jargon. Elvis Auqui is a therapist-in-trainging at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in-training accuring clincial hours.
I work best with individuals who may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of themselves as they juggle school, relationships, and big life decisions. You might be dealing with stress, burnout, low mood, or feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to change. Some students I work with are figuring out identity, boundaries, or how to manage emotions in a healthier way. In our work, you don’t have to have everything figured out. Therapy is a space to be real, talk things through, and feel supported without judgment. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s going on and find practical, meaningful ways to help you feel more steady, confident, and in control.
The way we think about ourselves and the world we are in greatly influences our feelings and actions. If we take the time to consider other alternatives, we might be able to see events from a more helpful perspective, and with practice, engage in more beneficial behaviors. I enjoy making my clients be active participants in their journey towards emotional wellness. My clients are the experts on their own life, and my job is to help you come to discover what is best for yourself. I acknowledge the intersectionality of everyone’s identity to create a welcoming, healing environment to all of my clients. I specialize in working with adolescents, emerging adults of color from the LGBTQ+ community, and work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, coming out, and life transitions. Exploring therapy does not make us "crazy" as many of us might've heard at one point or another. Give yourself the opportunity to be in a supportive space in which you are able to untangle your thoughts and emotions; where you are heard and validated. Let's pave the way towards the creation of healthier coping mechanisms and emotional wellness together.

I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.

Ricardo Bermudez, LCSW. I listen to people to get a sense of what their needs are. We work collaboratively to develop goals to support the therapeutic process. I work with a variety of people. It depends on the need for therapy and if I have the skills to support the issue. I am open-minded and do not judge anyone for their life circumstances. I believe that healing and growth happen when one is truly heard. As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space to support this process and help you move past fears and obstacles that may be getting in the way of your success and happiness. I specialize in helping adults navigate life transitions as well as stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma related to issues of identity, self-esteem, relationships, school, and career. I am particularly interested in working with diverse populations, including 1.5 and 2nd generation Asian Americans, BIPOC, and expats. As a native New Yorker and second generation Taiwanese-American, I’m especially attuned to issues of belonging and marginalization, and the complexities that arise from navigating intersecting identities and conflicting expectations, wants, and needs. In addition to being trained and licensed as a mental health counselor (LMHC), I have completed post-graduate work in psychodynamic therapy at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing®, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Prior to practicing therapy, I worked in advertising and marketing. We assess each client's environment, family, biological factors, and experiences from childhood to the present day. We consider a strong therapeutic relationship to be the highest indicator of progress in therapy. Being able to be open with one another enhances the therapy process. Without a strong rapport between therapist and client, safety doesn't exist, and barriers to positive change exist. After gathering history and establishing rapport, we then tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. We provide EMDR (trauma therapy) as well as regular talk psychotherapy.
My practice offers psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients move beyond roadblocks toward personal growth. We see patients across the lifespan and have been privileged to help people work through some of the most personal struggles in their lives. Together, we can address problematic behaviors (e.g., insomnia, anger, procrastination), troubling emotions (e.g., depression, anxiety, anger, fear), maladaptive thought patterns (e.g., rumination, worry, self-criticism), and relationship issues (e.g., work, family, dating). Taking the first step toward approaching your challenges can be scary. Finding a therapist you trust and with whom you feel comfortable is one of the most important factors in helping you to move forward. My practice also offers comprehensive psychological assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults. We use evidence-based assessment tools and methods grounded in research to conduct psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational, and fitness for duty/disability evaluations. The results of these evaluations can be used to aid in diagnosis and treatment, facilitate the provision of special education services, support applications for accommodations at school or work, or provide evidence of fitness for employment. We offer specialized consultation services, as well. Please check out our website to learn more.
