你说中文吗?可以点开看我的中文简介哦! As a 1st generation Asian Immigrant and a relational therapist for almost a decade, I have been providing culturally sensitive care to clients from all walks of lives. With a training from the Northwestern University , I enjoys assisting individuals and couples working through pains to a deeply connected, authentic, and satisfying life for themselves and with each other. Using my knowledge in attachment theory, mindfulness and interpersonal neurology, I enjoy helping people slow down & attune to their wants, needs & desires. I help people sit with their emotions in a way that feels okay then help them become clear on what they truly need deep down & feels good about getting what they need. As a therapist with visible and invisible social-cultural identities, I uses my intersectionality in the therapy room to reflect, be with and gently challenge people coming through my door who are impacted by the bigger social political context towards personal exploration and transformation I became a therapist to help people reconnect with themselves in a kind way, to be happy with who they are, and to build authentic and loving relationships that they truly deserve. All are welcome here.

Have you ever felt like you're either "too much" or "not enough"? This could be a general struggle, or it could be related to a specific trait (i.e. too Asian/not Asian enough or too Queer/not Queer enough). Perhaps you struggle to belong and don't feel like you quite fit anywhere. Or maybe factors such as perfectionism, self-doubt, overthinking, or comparison to others are creating problems. All of these issues are quite common, but can also be extremely nuanced. I understand and I can help. Let's explore your unique identity, coming to a better understanding of who you are. I'd like to help you unconditionally embrace and accept yourself. We can build a therapeutic relationship that supports you in meeting your goals. I hope to accompany you in your growth and healing as you laugh, cry, learn, explore, set goals, and gain skills along the way. Finding a new therapist can be an overwhelming process. I'd really like to support you in finding the right fit, so I offer a free initial phone consultation. I am open to working with all adults, but particularly enjoy helping those in the Asian and LGBTQ+ communities. Reach out to set up a time to chat; I'm here to help.
The heart of what I do is support couples and relationships in our community. When I work with individuals, I'm interested in helping you sink into being fully you while being in relationship with others. That might mean learning more about who you are, discovering your needs in relationship, getting support with boundaries and saying "no," processing your childhood and past, or growing your ability to being more vulnerable with others. I want to support you in being your full, authentic self. I am affirming of ethical non-monogamy (ENM), polyamory and open relationships. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, actively learning anti-racist, body positive, sex positive, and kink positive.
I find that the people I work best with are curious about their own patterns and are seeking to create better relationships with themselves and the other important people in their lives. Together lets figure out which parts of your life would benefit from trying something new and which parts would benefit from some compassionate acceptance. We can re-write the parts of your story that feel the most stuck and find new ways to grow into the person you want to be.
My clients are often women (but not always) seeking clarity and support around their current life situations, changes, and challenges - Maybe it's trying to work on their self-esteem, while balancing work and/or their studies and social and interpersonal relationships. Maybe it's processing loss/grief/change - including an influential person, a job, a move to a new city, a role in life (parenting). We can identify and practice shame resilience skills. We go through change all the time, and you don't have to be alone with it. My approach is described as active and supportive. I work with clients to address current issues and long-standing challenges. Applying sensitivity, empathy, and compassion, I help individuals bring resolution to a wide range of life challenges and clinical psychological issues. I have also worked in the addictions arena for 17+ years and have experience in alcohol and other substance addiction work. As well as some experience in working with compulsive behaviors such as gambling, shopping, and internet usage.

College can feel exciting and full of opportunities, but it can also bring a lot of stress. Many of the students I work with are balancing heavy class loads, pressure to succeed, relationship changes, and sometimes homesickness. This can lead to feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or unable to focus. At Giving Hope Psychiatry, I work with students who seek support in managing stress, improving focus, stabilizing their mood, and finding healthy ways to cope with challenges. Some students come to me for help with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. Others simply need a safe space to discuss what they’re going through and explore options for feeling better. Appointments are available online and flexible, allowing you to meet from your dorm, apartment, or anywhere you feel comfortable. My goal is to provide care that is supportive, personalized, and hopeful—so you don’t have to go through this alone.
I believe that therapy is an investment in oneself, a space to learn about your personal emotions, life patterns, and ways you want to live your life. Everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental individual in their corner! As an old soul, I have a deep well of compassion which I balance with some "real talk" that encourages one to examine their lives. I enjoy working with people throughout the life spectrum.
I offer telehealth appointments both in Oregon and Massachusetts.
I have lived in Oregon since 2006. As an active person and outdoor enthusiast, I enjoy hiking, yoga, kickboxing, cycling, and paddle sports. I spend my time relaxing with my husband, friends, family, and 7-year-old adorable black Labrador mix. I enjoy traveling and have been able to explore Africa, Central America, South America, Asia, and Europe. Don’t worry…Australia and Antarctica are on the list! I have been practicing therapy since 2009 and working in mental health services since 2001. I received my Master’s in Applied Psychology in Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University in 2009 and my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California in Santa Cruz in 2003. I have worked in a variety of therapeutic environments including a sub-acute hospital for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, a residential treatment program for adolescents, treatment foster care for children and youth, community-based services for families in crisis, foster care settings for children, youth, and young adults, outpatient mental health for adults, and in clinical research for youth and young adults struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviors. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Oregon. My license is registered under my maiden name: Kristen Semelsberger. License number is C5039.
My goal will ultimately be to help you change your patterns, address relationship issues and/or anxieties, and find your inner wisdom. Through a combination of traditional talk therapy and ancient healing practices, we will journey towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your inner world. I utilize a holistic framework with clients; incorporating the unique experiences of mind, body and spirit. Diversity and authenticity are essential to becoming who we truly are, thus I aim to hold safe and inclusive spaces during our journey together. I welcome you here with an open mind & heart.

I’ve been serving teens and adults as a mental health therapist for the past ten years in (and around) Portland, Oregon. I worked for 5 years at a community college as a counselor and taught various courses such as college success and career exploration and understand the variety of challenges college students face with mental health, relationships, finding their path in life and more. I am excited to share that I am EMDR trained and hold a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate and hope to incorporate those tools into therapy. Making the decision to start therapy isn't always easy, particularly when you feel exhausted, overwhelmed and even hopeless.
