Life can be hard. I get it. Especially when trying to balance the already difficult challenges of daily life and trying to be successful in higher education at the same time. Anxiety, family conflict, relationship problems, imposter syndrome, and other common problems are understandable concerns with everything today’s college student have to deal with. Adjustment to college by itself can be challenging, be it undergrad or even grad school. I believe I can help… I have a very down-to-earth, non-judgmental style and like to think that I am easy to talk to. I have over 20 years of experience in Mental Health and Higher Education. Therapeutically, I use an integrative approach that draws heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Systems Theory, and is influenced by social justice frameworks. Professionally my interests include racially marginalized students, developmental concerns, family of origin concerns, relationship concerns, stress/anxiety induced academic performance issues, men’s issues, and imposter syndrome/sense of belonging. Outside of work, I consider myself a “Blerd”. I’m a serious movie/cinema buff. I’m also a fan of all things Comics and Sci-Fi/fantasy. I enjoy community service and cultural events. (Note: I can not accept current Emory University Students)
I know what it feels like to hate your body, spend every waking moment thinking about food, constantly comparing yourself to others, and dealing with the sadness associated with not 'fitting in'. Throughout my experiences working with adults and children, I've witnessed entire transformations that come only as a result of addressing both physical needs and our individual psychological hurdles. I'll work with you to find solutions and tackle stressors, including those caused by low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, chronic dieting, or relationships. As a Body Love Coach and Licensed Professional Counselor, I work to equip women and girls with the knowledge, tools, and support they need in order to ROCK regardless of their weight or body image. **I'm in-network for Amerigroup, Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem, CareSource, Humana, and Peach State. I also provide therapy virtually and in the community.
As a therapist, Cayla strives to honor clients’ unique identities and collaborate with them in exploring how their backgrounds may impact their wellness. She aims to collaborate with clients to foster an affirming, safe, and genuine relationship. Cayla is integrative in her therapeutic approach, primarily leaning on dialectical-behavioral and relational interventions within multicultural and feminist framework. She works with clients on identifying areas in their life they’d like to accept and areas they would like to change while providing the support and skills to do so. Her clinical interests include relationship concerns, family of origin concerns, adjustment difficulties, identity exploration, and mood concerns. Cayla is a psychologist who identifies as a Chinese-American woman. She prioritizes recognizing the intersectional identities of each client so that they can exist authentically while understanding sociocultural systems of privilege and oppression. Please note that Cayla is currently employed by Emory University Counseling and Psychological Services, therefore she cannot provide therapy for those who are enrolled Emory University students.

Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 11 years of experience in outpatient mental health, crisis response, and program management. I specialize in providing individual, group, couples, and family counseling, integrating evidence-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered approaches. I have extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams, conducting comprehensive assessments, and coordinating care across community and clinical settings. Recognized for improving client outcomes and building strong partnerships, I am committed to expanding access to quality mental health services and supporting diverse populations with compassion and expertise. In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and building a foundation of trust. I’ll ask questions to learn about your concerns, history, and goals for therapy, and I’ll also give you space to share what feels most important to you. Together, we’ll begin to create a plan that feels manageable and tailored to your needs. My goal is for you to leave the session feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the path ahead. One of my greatest strengths is my integrative approach—I draw from evidence-based methods like CBT, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness while tailoring each session to fit the unique needs of my clients. I’m skilled at creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel truly heard and understood, while also helping them develop practical tools they can use in daily life. Clients often share that my balance of compassion, encouragement, and direct guidance helps them make meaningful progress and lasting change.

Everyone has an idea of what working with a therapist is like. I encourage my clients to enter our therapeutic relationship with an open mind. I want each of my clients to feel comfortable being themselves in our sessions. I emphasize to each of my clients that, while I may be direct, I am not rude, and I treat each of my clients with dignity and respect. While I ask that respect be reciprocated, I want to be clear that I am not easily offended and encourage clients to express themselves in the manner that feels most comfortable to them. I utilize a person-centered approach when working with new clients in an effort to increase their levels of comfort with me and with being in the therapy session. I pride myself on my ability to provide quality and competent therapeutic services in an inviting and relatable manner. I know that seeking mental health treatment for yourself or a loved one can be a harrowing process. I want to commend you for taking the first step in improving your mental wellness. Welcome! Regardless of what you’re experiencing, you don’t have to do it alone. My ultimate hope for my clients is that they develop deeper, more rewarding relationships with themselves, God, and others. I love getting to be your partner in this process. CLINICAL FOCUS I am a disordered eating counselor who is passionate about helping individuals heal their relationship to food and their bodies. Having worked in higher levels of care in eating disorder recovery (IP, RES, PHP), I have extensive knowledge and experience in treating a range of eating difficulty presentations. I believe that many of us end up stuck in patterns that aren’t serving us like they used to. These patterns are often why people enter therapy. My clients typically hear me say that their behaviors make sense and have been incredibly useful at times to keep them safe, connected, and surviving. When these behaviors don’t serve us anymore, we need to learn something new. That’s where therapy comes in. I incorporate EMDR and talk therapy to help people move past disordered eating behaviors and rebuild broken trust with themselves and their bodies. When our body isn't the enemy anymore, we have the capacity for more depth, connection, and presence in our lives. This impacts everything. I also work with individuals facing challenging relationship dynamics, trauma and attachment wounds, anxiety and depression, shame and self-worth issues, and spiritual concerns. In addition, I am a Prepare/Enrich Certified Facilitator and enjoy working with pre-marital couples as they prepare for marriage. WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION My counseling style is warm and relational. I counsel from an attachment perspective, which means I prioritize building a secure relationship between us. We'll do hard work together, but you'll always have someone in the trenches with you. I conduct sessions virtually. This means we will meet from the comfort of your home (or lunch break if needed!). Being in an environment that is familiar to you can help create a sense of security. It can also eliminate barriers that make it difficult to attend therapy.

The students I work best with are often feeling overwhelmed by the demands of college and life. They may be struggling with anxiety, stress, burnout, self-doubt, relationship challenges, family pressures, academic concerns, or major life transitions. Many are used to being the "strong one" for everyone else and find themselves feeling emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of how to prioritize their own needs. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where students can better understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, improve self-confidence, set boundaries, and navigate challenges with greater clarity. Whether they are adjusting to college life, managing stress, exploring their identity, or working through personal struggles, I help students develop practical tools and insight so they can feel more balanced, confident, and connected to what matters most to them.
